Be a Writing Coach with America SCORES Cleveland

Work with 3rd-5th graders and using the America SCORES writing curriculum 2 to 4 days per week after school (training will be provided). This seasons’ curriculum is geared towards preparing the students to take part in a poetry slam on November 14th. We are looking for one or two coaches to be at Willow School (off Broadway near Slavic Village) from 2:30-4:00 pm. Willow’s schedule is set up so the Boys team takes part in writing on Mondays and Wednesdays, and the Girls team does writing on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Pay is $35 per session (a session is one day of writing, so someone could potentially make and extra $140/week during the SCORES season). Please contact: Paul Khacherian, Education Director, America SCORES Cleveland, 216-589-0921, pKhacherian@americascores.org. More info on America SCORES: www.AmericaSCORESCleveland.org

City Year Heroes Program

City Year is a national service organization that unites 17-24 year olds for a 10 month, full-time commitment to service. Now, diverse students are recruited from all over the Greater Cleveland area to participate in the City Year’s Heroes programs!

The Heroes programs focus on social issues relative to the area. Curriculum focusing on a social issue is taught and is followed by pertinent service. For example, if the topic for the week is Hunger and Homelessness; then service may be done at a soup kitchen. The programs operate on Saturdays, from 9-4.

There are two branches of the Heroes program: Young Heroes & City Heroes. Young Heroes is a program for middle school students and City Heroes is for high students.

A Young Heroes team leader is an adult who is committed to leading ten motivated middle school students three Saturdays a month from January-May. This adult will engage the youth in discussion and service, track attendance of the team, track the students hours toward the Presidential Student Service Award/Graduation Requirement and lead the morning circles.
