Can you say, "First Amendment Violation"?

Agents' visit chills UMass Dartmouth senior

Apparently, requesting a copy of Mao Tse-Tung's "The Little Red Book" from inter-library loan warrants a visit from Department of Homeland Security officials.

Freedom? What's that?

Pixel art

I saw Ben's blog entry earlier today about favicons for blog.case.edu and planet.case.edu and I was inspired. I'm not a graphic designer by any stretch of the imagination, but I enjoy a graphical challenge every now and then, so I decided to see how many Case IT services I could represent with 16x16-pixel icons while maintaining a common theme. Now I want to know if I was successful. How many can you identify?

These icons aren't ready for prime time, and I'm not suggesting they actually be used... (as I said, I am not a graphic designer.)

Magnetic poetry

I found a cool open source AJAX magnetic poetry application and set up a version with some Case-specific words. You can rearrange the pieces yourself, or watch as others play. Have fun! Let me know if you notice any problems or if you have a favorite word you want me to add.

schedule.case.edu

I noticed that schedule.case.edu isn't blank anymore. It doesn't look like it's quite finished yet, but it looks promising. Nice work, Alex and Matt!

Pretty Colors!

Dear LazyWeb,
What's the big iridescent thing on top of Crawford Hall? Why is it iridescent like that?

LED Christmas lights

Stop reading now if you find reading pointless drivel on blogs to be annoying.

The other day I was in a store that had Christmas lights up for decoration. Instead of the usual mini incandescent bulbs, this string had (slightly bluish) white LEDs. It also apparently had a really cheap unfiltered power supply, since the lights were blinking at 60 Hz. My eyes hurt after looking at them for 10 seconds or so. I will not be buying any lights like that, ever. Unless I really want to screw up the neighbors' vision.
