New Weekly Feature: 10 Interesting Web Finds
In an effort to rise to new levels of journalistic ability, I have decided to blow the dust off this thing, and see if I can't provide some interesting content. Now that it's offically Wenesday, March 15, Its now time for the *NEW* Weekly Web Find Column. Most of these sites are brought to you by the StumbleUpon extension to Firefox.
WEEKLY WEB FINDS
#1) Sky & Telescope Interactive Sky Chart
While it isn't quite useful in Cleveland, this little Java applet is fun to play with if you're into ameture Astronomy.
#2) Hamachi Secure Peer-to-Peer Virtual LAN Freeware
This might be worth looking into if you have friends at other universities, or even another computer that you use (say, at home). I'll be trying this, and when I do, expect a full report. Feel free to add your reviews to the comments of this post.
#3) Celestia Freeware Planetarium
The screenshots look interesting enough. Expect a review of this "3d space simulator" in comparison to its cousin, Stary Night.
#4) The Collective Unconsciousness Project
When I first saw this, I had no idea what it was, but my interests in CogSci got the better of me. Be sure to check out the actual flash piece, it's an interesting look into the collective dreams of visitors to the site.
#5) The Global Consciousness Project
Along the lines of TCUP above, this project is part CogSci part SciFi. Using "random generators" arround the world, the team hopes to detect a sort of global consciousness.
#6) The 100 oldest "curently-regstered" Dot Com Domains
Not really useful, but very cool to see how old some of these are.
#7) Murphy's Laws
A Collection of Murphy's Laws for just about everything.
#8) A List of Windows "Task List" programs, services, etc
Ever wondered what many of those items are? Now you know!
#9)Tiny Apps
A list of useful, small applications(many that are free) for use under windows and PalmOS. Does anyone still use PalmOS???
#10)Wild Mood Swings Random Web Browsing
I thought it Ironic that I found a random web browsing page while randomly browsing the web. Pick your mood and browse. Disapointing because each mood is only one web page.
That's it for this week. Check back next week for more Weekly Web Finds.
