I also got back my results from the panel review and will be revising my paper due to what was said. I needed to clarify my writing and use more professional language in some areas. I have done so and will have my paper signed by Beverly and hand in the final copy to Steve.

I have revised my paper based on what help I was given from my classmates and from Steve. Things I need to do are proof read a little better as well as add some pictures to my proposal. The addition of the pictures will greatly clarify my work and where it will be done. This is about all the work that I will have time to do this week.

They were all rather good. I seem to need to proofread my paper a little better and clarify a few issues. Adding some images to help describe the area where the farm and gas wells in Ohio are located. Over the next week I hop to talk to Beverly and get her input on my proposal as well as find out some information about working on my project over the summer.

I was given a website to go to and look at some of the well information in the surrounding area to get an idea of what the farm is like. I looked at this for a while but have not really had a chance to do it this week. Otherwise this week Professor Van Orman and Professor McCall came in to present thier research. Professor McCall's research involved organisms in lake Erie sediments. Professsor Van Orman's research all involves high pressure geochemistry. While both of these are interesting I don't know if that what i really want to do.

She was Dationg ash layers using geochemistry to tell if they were related to other ash beds in the area. Shealso presented on current projects that she may have for us to do as our senior projects. The other paper was Professor Matisoff's paper on Oxygen levels in lake erie and their relation to soil oxygen levels. He took core samples of the bottom of lake erie and Checked their oxygen levels to see if this could help to locate the problem. He also presented on his current worka nd showed us his lab. Professor Hauck was first and talked to us about the paper we read. the paper we discussed was on his predictions for the MESSENGER flight to Mercury. Derek helped with the paper during the summer between his senior year and graduate school. The paper discussed the large bulk density of Mercury and possible solutions. Monte Carlo simulations were used to find the error in some possible answers. The class ended with Professor Hauck showing us his lab and the computers in it. For next week we are to read Professor Saylor's paper.

The first day was mostly basic things like the course syllabus. The second day we read a few papers and had a discussion on whether or not geology is actually a science because it borrows so much from physics. Personally I feel that is science because it contains elements that are specific to the field concerning logic and reasoning. We were then assigned to read a paper from professor Hauck for next week's class.
