Harrah's Casino

The Harrah's Casino case was very interesting. When I first read the case I thought it was going to be easy to answer all the questions. However, it got more difficult as I began to actually write the paper. I found myself repeating a lot of items and even began to question my original thoughts. We had a really great discussion in class about the case. I only wish we could have had the discussion before I had written the paper...

We split into groups in the class that we discussed Harrah's Casino. I feel that our group had a really good idea, which was the direction I tried to take in my paper. Harrah's Casino used a gain-sharing program which did an excellent job of achieving customer satisfaction. All the employees tried their best to make the customers feel wanted and made sure they had a good time when they entered the casino. However, I knew this was a bad way to look at running a business mainly because I am a guy who looks at profit. The company did make its customers happy, but it completely ignore profit margins and all the other important factors that are needed to run a successful business. When our group in class was asked what are proposition for Harrah's would have been, we felt it needed profit-sharing program as well as a gain-sharing program. Making money is needed first to keep a company alive. The gainsharing program is an excellent idea that keeps it in the direction of achieving its goal of knowing what the customer wants. All companies need to look at its profits though.

I also thought that the Harrah's Casino case was going to be a rather easy case. It was only after I really started to analyze the case, did I realize its complexity. I thought that there were a lot of different options that Harrah's could take and I found myself being unable to make up my mind as to which course of action they should pursue. I thought it was a good case to do a case report on because of all these little nuances.
