Case Western Reserve University's honorary degree committee invites the campus community to offer nominations of honorary degree candidates to be recognized at commencement ceremonies in May 2007.
The university confers several honorary degrees each year to recognize individuals for excellence in "any valued aspect of human endeavor, including the realm of scholarship, public service and the performing arts" (Faculty Handbook, 3, III.X). For example, last year's honorary degree recipients represented a multitude of disciplines, including Paul Farmer, medical anthropologist and physician; Julie Gerberding, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a Case alumnus; Richard Goldstone, a former Justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa; and Kazuo Inamori, international business leader and namesake of the university's Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence
The president has appointed the following to serve on the 2006-2007 honorary degree committee: Jonathan Sadowsky, College of Arts and Sciences; John Lewandowski, School of Engineering; Gerald Ferretti, School of Dental Medicine; Jacqueline Lipton, School of Law; Ellen Garbarino, Weatherhead School of Management; Alan Tartakoff, School of Medicine; Christine Hudak, School of Nursing; Jerry Floersch, Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences; Emily Donovan, Physical Education and Athletics; Robin Dubin, university marshal; Lynn Singer, deputy provost; and Richard Zdanis, university vice president emeritus and provost emeritus. Provost John Anderson chairs the committee.
