The Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity is pleased to announce the new Faculty Diversity Officer, Dr. John M. Clochesy, the Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing Education from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing.
He will oversee the Office of Faculty Diversity and be responsible for faculty diversity matters related to recruitment, employment and equal opportunity, including reviewing allegations of sexual harassment or discrimination against or about faculty and facilitating Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations for faculty members. The FDO also reports faculty diversity data to the Faculty Senate and serves on university committees concerned with faculty diversity issues. Clochesy will work closely with Vice President Marilyn Sanders Mobley in serving as a resource for all faculty.
Clochesy holds a bachelor's degree in nursing and social work, a master's degree in medical-surgical nursing, a master's degree in psychology/diversity management, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Nursing Research from Case Western Reserve. He also has additional training in diversity facilitation from the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland. His diversity efforts both within the School of Nursing and at the university include training programs for faculty and staff, development of recruitment and retention strategies, and serving on the President's Advisory Council on Minorities. He has served as a guest speaker on the status of diversity for the state of Ohio and is currently the recipient of a major NIH grant to study minority health and health disparities.
"I am extremely grateful to all our colleagues who participated in the search, whether by reviewing dossiers, interviewing candidates, or attending presentations," Mobley said. "We had a small, but impressive group of candidates who were considered for the position, which made the decision extremely difficult. We are fortunate to have colleagues on our faculty who are committed to the work of inclusion and diversity, and we will continue to seek their contribution to our efforts."
Clochesy begins his duties as Faculty Diversity Officer on Monday, October 26. In reflecting on what this new addition to her staff will mean, Mobley commented, "I am delighted to have this critical position filled. Dr. Clochesy brings knowledge of the diversity field, not only from his scholarship and teaching, but also from his consulting both at our university and around the state and the country. I look forward to working with him and to serving the needs of our faculty."
