Leading geneticist Francis Collins named first recipient of the Inamori Ethics Prize at Case Western Reserve University
Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., a physician-geneticist and leader of the Human Genome Project, has been named recipient of the inaugural Inamori Ethics Prize from the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence at Case Western Reserve University.

Inamori Center shares in Kyoto celebration, prepares for ethics prize gala
The Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence at Case Western Reserve University will help celebrate the North American Kyoto Laureate Symposium today through March 14 in San Diego. The Inamori Center also will mark the awarding of its inaugural Inamori Ethics Prize September 4 in Cleveland, with a celebration reminiscent of the Kyoto Prize events.

At the crossroads of culture and science -- symposium on the mind and morality
The Project on Ethics and Cognitive Science will make its official debut at Case Western Reserve University when it presents the daylong symposium, "Morality and Mind: Ethics at the Crossroads of Culture and Science." The free, public event takes place Friday, February 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the George S. Dively Building, 11240 Bellflower Rd., and includes a continental breakfast and lunch.

Inamori Center to host forum on ethics of eugenics
The Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence at Case Western Reserve University, in conjunction with the Center for Genetic Research Ethics and Law, will host "Eugenics 2007: Is the Customer Always Right?," a discussion of the ethical issues arising from genetic manipulation on December 5.

Case Western Reserve University dedicates new ethics center; Eastwood named new director
Case Western Reserve University has dedicated its Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence. The dedication of the new space on Monday, May 7 provided an opportunity to acknowledge the visionary and humanitarian mission of the center’s namesake, Dr. Kazuo Inamori, and to announce Interim President Gregory L. Eastwood, M.D., (MED ‘66), as the new director of the center.

International humanitarian to be honored at dedication of Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence
Case Western Reserve University will honor international humanitarian and entrepreneurial visionary Dr. Kazuo Inamori when it dedicates the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence on Monday, May 7. The dedication ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting and open house at Crawford Hall on the Case campus.

Mandel School and bioethics team up at Case for new MSSA/MA degree program
Responding to an increasingly complex world where situations may exist that require the help a social worker and bioethicist, Case Western Reserve University's Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences has teamed up with the department of bioethics in the Case School of Medicine to offer graduate students a unique "side-by-side" dual degree program towards a master's of social science administration (MSSA) and master of art degree in bioethics (MA).

Head of September 11th Victim Compensation Fund to speak at Case Western Reserve University School of Law March 6
Kenneth Feinberg will discuss his experiences as administrator of the fund in a talk, "The 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund: Private Pain and Public Compensation," on Tuesday, March 6, at 4:30 p.m. at the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in the Moot Courtroom (A59), 11075 East Boulevard. Feinberg's talk is being sponsored by CISCDR, the law school's Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Conflict and Dispute Resolution.
