Case Western Reserve University trustees bring on new leaders

Case Western Reserve University added a pair of area development leaders to its board of trustees. Brian Ratner, president of East Coast Development for Forest City Enterprises, Inc., and Scott A. Wolstein, chairman and CEO of Developers Diversified Realty Corporation, were both appointed to the board at its February 22 trustees meeting. Charles "Bud" Koch, a member of the board since 1999 and former chairman and CEO of Charter One Financial, was named chair-elect, beginning his term on October 18, 2008.

Hunt receives Case Alumni Association's highest honor

Case Western Reserve University alumnus and trustee David Hunt received the Case Alumni Association's Gold Medal award at the organization's annual reunion banquet on June 8. The CAA chose to honor Hunt for his work as a mediator between the leadership of the association and the university. Relationships between the two had been rocky in recent years until Hunt's intervention helped bridge the gap.

Nobel laureate Ferid Murad, who received his M.D. and Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1965 and serves as a member of the university's Board of Trustees, has been named director emeritus of the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases (IMM).

Case students, community show support for Virginia Tech

On Friday, April 20, dozens of Case Western Reserve University students and other members of the campus community became honorary "Hokies" in spirit. They wore maroon and orange -- the Virginia Tech school colors -- in a show of solidarity and support. To remember and honor fellow students, faculty, staff and administrators who lost their lives or were injured at Virginia Tech earlier this week, several of Case Western Reserve's student organizations joined together to create a large "card" and a campus photo.

Trustees announce Barbara Snyder as university president

The Case Western Reserve University Board of Trustees in a unanimous vote has elected Barbara R. Snyder as the next president of Case Western Reserve University. Snyder, who began her academic career in higher education in the Case Western Reserve University School of Law, currently serves as the executive vice president and provost of The Ohio State University.
