Statement of Support for Case Western Reserve University
Adopted by the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of Case Western Reserve University March 24, 2006
The Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of Case Western Reserve University regrets the series of events that culminated in Dr. Edward M. Hundert's resignation as President on March 15. Dr. Hundert's exciting vision for our University included the creation of this new Alumni Association to provide a single umbrella organization to serve the diverse interests of our 95,000 living alumni more effectively.
For several years, a number of our Directors worked as volunteers on a widely representative Task Force to develop a significant new Alumni Association. They were motivated by Dr. Hundert's vision of a bright future for an institution that had existed far too long in the shadows of national and international educational recognition. Creative, imaginative, visionary university leadership is often difficult to sustain and requires passionate, supportive alumni, especially during periods of transition. New leadership will be found in due course, but it will be difficult to continue the visionary program initiated by Dr. Hundert unless our alumni support its continuation.
With our University at the threshold of change, the Alumni Association Board of Directors urges that all alumni come forward in support of Case Western Reserve University by whatever means available to them. This support might include: conveying a positive message when commenting on the University and recent events; serving as an alumni student recruiter; assisting students in finding positions after graduation; becoming involved in school or regional alumni activities; and giving or increasing financial support to the University.
We support the Board of Trustees as it guides the University through the coming transition and launches a nationwide presidential search. Finally, we thank Dr. Hundert for his service to the University and wish him well as he moves to the next role of his life.
