Just a few items of information before we get started. First, Denison Hall has been under construction since around late June. So, we will begin our auditions this Sunday, but those auditions will be in Harkness Chapel once classes begin all auditions will be in Denison as usual. And, regular classes will resume in Denison on Monday 8/25. So, if you can just leave your instruments in your rooms until Monday that would be great since Denison is still not finished.

So, you can sign up for an audition this Sunday 8/24 (in Harkness Chapel), next Tuesday 8/26, Thursday 8/28, or Friday 8/29. To sign-up for a time go to Haydn Hall Room 305, Dr. Horvath’s Office, or e-mail her at kah24@case.edu to pick an audition date and time. (See Case/University Circle Orchestra web materials for additional information.)

Auditions consist of scales, a prepared piece that shows your level of performance, and orchestral excerpts. (Go to the Music Department’s Ensemble website for more specific requirements for this ensemble and download the required orchestral excerpt sheet for your instrument.)

Rehearsals will commence on Tuesday the 2nd of September.

The audition sign up sheet will remain in Denison Hall on the cello locker. If you have not done so already, you must sign up for an audition time (either Tuesday or Thursday evening). These are placement auditions - all will be able to participate. Also - there are no rehearsals this week due to auditions. See you soon!

Auditions are required for placement Case's orchestras (strings only).
All who audition will be accepted and permitted to participate. The
following audition times are still available. Again these auditions are
REQUIRED for both MUEN 385 & 386.

Sunday August 26th 11:30am - 4pm in Denison.
Sunday August 26th 5:30 - 9:00 in Harkness Chapel.
Tuesday August 28th 5:00 - 9:00 in Dension Rehearsal Hall (During regular rehearsal time)
Thursday August 30th 5:00 - 9:00 in Denison Rehearsal Hall.(During regular rehearsal time)

After that, you may sign up for an audition time outside of Dr.

PLEASE SIGN UP OUT SIDE DR. HORVATH'S OFFICE (HAYDN 304) FOR A TIME TO AUDTION ASAP.

To get organized for fall semester it is necessary for ALL STRING
students to take an audition for placement in sections. Winds will be
notified separately and will not be required to attend the first
rehearsal. Auditions consist of Scales, a prepared piece that shows
your level of performance, and orchestral excerpts. Go to the Music
Department's web site to download the excerpt sheet for your instrument
or you can pick up a hard copy outside of Dr. Horvath's Office (Room
304 Haydn Hall).

Auditions will be held in Denison Hall beginning on Wednesday August 22
and continue through Tuesday August 28th. Most auditions will be held
prior to the beginning of classes.

To sign up for an Audition time go to Haydn Hall Room 304, Dr.
Horvath's office, anytime from today through the 23rd.

The first rehearsal commences on 8/30/07.

If you are performing the concert this Sunday (4/29/07) at Severance Hall here is what you need to know:

1. Dress rehearsal is scheduled to begin PROMPTLY at 1:30 pm. That means you are to arrive by 1:10 so that you have ample time to find the location of the warm-up room, unpack your instrument, and proceed to the stage.

EVERYONE MUST BE ON THE STAGE AT 1:25 OR YOU WILL NOT PLAY THE CONCERT !!!!!

Order of the program is as follows:

Martinu Oboe Concerto, last movement

Saint Saens Cello Concerto from Rehearsal K to the end.

Bolero

2. Concert Dress is FORMAL. That means tuxes or suits (Bow ties) for the guys and appropriate dress for ladies. While we are used to a more infomal setting in the Thwing Ballroomor Harkness Chapel, this is a CONCERT HALL. If you are dressed inappropriately you will not play this performance. See the syllabus if you have any questions about what formal dress means.

3. At the conclusion of this performanc you will need to return all of your music. Rental parts must be in the mail by TUESDAY morning. If you do not return your music I can and will prevent you from registering or delay your grades. See the syllabus for protocols regarding lost parts or failure to return music.

This performance is an important one for the Department of Music in that we are trying to rally support for a new building. So let's show all of these important people just how incredible we are and that we DESERVE to have facilites that reflect our level of musicianship.

As always I appreciate the contribution that each and everyone of you make to the orchestra program. Without you there would be no orchestra program. It is time that your needs as student musicians are met and everyone at the University does what is necessary to support your efforts.
