According to Dems... punching police is ok

I can't believe the congress member who punched a police officer won't appologize. This is what you do... you cooperate with cops! If you don't like what they're accusing you of... there's a court system to deal with that. As long as you're civil with the police... you will get the respect you deserve.

Iran Defiantly Rejects Angry Letter From UN

What a surprise... Iran laughed off the angry letter from the UN. It is clear that we must be more aggressive in this quest to get them to cease uranium enrichment. We must set a time table indicating that when we will impose sanctions and other actions if they do not end their programs. Time is not on our side. We must act now before they obtain nuclear weapons.

White house chief of staff resigns

Perhaps this can jump start the Bush agenda. There will be new fresh ideas in the white house. I would sure love to see Social Security reform legislation get through congress. However, maybe this new chief of staff will go an entirely new direction that can improve on other things within the government.

Bush unleashes on left wing hack "journalist" Helen Thomas at press conference

BUSH TAKES ON PRESS AND HELEN THOMAS TOO
Tue Mar 21 2006 14:40:12 ET

Helen Thomas, who in January grumbled that President Bush was a “coward” for not calling on her at a press conference, today was granted a question for the first time in several years. The doyenne of the White House press corps, who once called Bush the worst president in U.S. history, seized her chance with gusto, essentially debating Bush instead of questioning him. Here's the transcript:

THE PRESIDENT: Helen. After that brilliant performance at the Grid Iron, I am -- (laughter.)

Q You're going to be sorry. (Laughter.)

THE PRESIDENT: Well, then, let me take it back. (Laughter.)

Q I'd like to ask you, Mr. President, your decision to invade Iraq has caused the deaths of thousands of Americans and Iraqis, wounds of Americans and Iraqis for a lifetime. Every reason given, publicly at least, has turned out not to be true. My question is, why did you really want to go to war? From the moment you stepped into the White House, from your Cabinet -- your Cabinet officers, intelligence people, and so forth -- what was your real reason? You have said it wasn't oil -- quest for oil, it hasn't been Israel, or anything else. What was it?

THE PRESIDENT: I think your premise -- in all due respect to your question and to you as a lifelong journalist -- is that -- I didn't want war. To assume I wanted war is just flat wrong, Helen, in all due respect --

Q Everything --

THE PRESIDENT: Hold on for a second, please.

Q -- everything I've heard --

THE PRESIDENT: Excuse me, excuse me. No President wants war. Everything you may have heard is that, but it's just simply not true. My attitude about the defense of this country changed on September the 11th. We -- when we got attacked, I vowed then and there to use every asset at my disposal to protect the American people. Our foreign policy changed on that day, Helen. You know, we used to think we were secure because of oceans and previous diplomacy. But we realized on September the 11th, 2001, that killers could destroy innocent life. And I'm never going to forget it. And I'm never going to forget the vow I made to the American people that we will do everything in our power to protect our people.

Part of that meant to make sure that we didn't allow people to provide safe haven to an enemy. And that's why I went into Iraq -- hold on for a second --

Q They didn't do anything to you, or to our country.

THE PRESIDENT: Look -- excuse me for a second, please. Excuse me for a second. They did. The Taliban provided safe haven for al Qaeda. That's where al Qaeda trained --

Q I'm talking about Iraq --

THE PRESIDENT: Helen, excuse me. That's where -- Afghanistan provided safe haven for al Qaeda. That's where they trained. That's where they plotted. That's where they planned the attacks that killed thousands of innocent Americans.

I also saw a threat in Iraq. I was hoping to solve this problem diplomatically. That's why I went to the Security Council; that's why it was important to pass 1441, which was unanimously passed. And the world said, disarm, disclose, or face serious consequences --

Q -- go to war --

THE PRESIDENT: -- and therefore, we worked with the world, we worked to make sure that Saddam Hussein heard the message of the world. And when he chose to deny inspectors, when he chose not to disclose, then I had the difficult decision to make to remove him. And we did, and the world is safer for it.

Q Thank you, sir. Secretary Rumsfeld -- (laughter.)

Q Thank you.

THE PRESIDENT: You're welcome. (Laughter.) I didn't really regret it. I kind of semi-regretted it. (Laughter.)

Q -- have a debate.

THE PRESIDENT: That's right. Anyway, your performance at the Grid Iron was just brilliant -- unlike Holland's, was a little weak, but -- (laughter.)

Democrats make fighting social security reform top issue in 2006

After the republicans brought up social security reform again, the democrats shot it down rapidly. They also pledged to KEEP FIGHTING AGAINST PRIVATIZATION AS A MAIN ISSUE IN THE 2006 ELECTIONS! This is going to make it very easy for the republicans. All they have to do is get out the 18-30 years old age group. A large majority of the young people in America are in support of privatization because we all know that with the current system... my generation is getting the short end of the stick. Even if the privatization is not perfect... it still leaves me with more than $0. My generation does not want to just throw our money away via social security. Partial privatization would provide us with at least something in return for paying into it. It works for the teachers in Ohio... why can't everyone get that sweet deal?

Clinton's Whitewater scandal comes to close

Since the liberal media won't cover this story... only rehashing republican issues... I thought you would like to know that the legal battle with this scandal is finally done.

The Supreme Court yesterday refused to hear an appeal from former Arkansas Gov. Jim Guy Tucker, who asked the justices to allow him to withdraw his guilty plea to tax charges in the Whitewater investigation, closing the door on the 12-year, $60 million probe.

...

The probe netted 14 guilty verdicts or pleas, including Hubbell, who pleaded guilty to tax evasion, mail fraud and concealment by scheme; Tucker, who was found guilty of conspiracy and mail fraud and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service; McDougal, convicted by a jury of 18 felonies in Madison's collapse; and Mrs. McDougal, convicted of four felonies.
Other Clinton associates, bankers and real estate officials pleaded guilty to six felonies and eight misdemeanor charges in the case.
Mrs. McDougal was sentenced to two years, but served only 105 days before a judge released her because of a back problem. But she served 18 months on a contempt citation sought by Mr. Starr for refusing to testify before a grand jury about Mr. Clinton's role in the Whitewater affair.
With less than two hours remaining in his presidency, Mr. Clinton pardoned Mrs. McDougal. It was among 140 pardons and 36 commutations signed by the president as he prepared to leave office.

Hillary says: BILL! YOU LISTEN TO ME!

It's official... Bill Clinton can no longer have an opinion for himself. He must now take the exact same opinion as Hillary. Hey... at least someone will finally agree with her.

Bush threatens Iran... It has more punch after Iraq doesn't it

I disagree with George Bush on some issues, but this is definitely not one of them. President Bush said that if Iraq doesn't listen, we'll invade. They didn't listen, we invaded Iraq. Since then, the US has a much stronger arm in negotiations. The first sign of this came when Libya got rid of their WMDs. Now... he has made the threat to Iran. The leaders of Iran now know that American is not the pacifist that it once was. We are not afraid to take action when it is necessary. We back our threats... they are not empty as they were in the Clinton era. The days of being pushed around are over. America is stronger than these little nations that have been pushing us around. Iran knows that... and more importantly, our president knows that.

US urges UN to write a very angry letter to Iran

Why is the UN moving so slow. The whole world knows Iran is trying to obtain nuclear weapons. The whole world knows that they aren't going to give up their pursuit unless some kind of force is used. We should be sanctioning the heck out of Iran right now. Right now they have no motivation to quit. Let’s give them that motivation. Giving them a letter saying "We want you to get rid of your nukes" will do nothing.

The UN is such a joke. What does it take to convince the UN to take action? Are they waiting for them to nuke Israel?

Congress needs to stop putting themselves on "your security" pedestals

This port deal controversy is ridiculous. THEY ARE NOT OUTSOURCING PORT SECURITY! It is necessary that this deal goes through. There is not an issue with port security if this deal goes through. It is necessary that this deal goes through so that we can push our free trade agenda. How can we preach free and open trade if we don't let a simple business transaction happen just because they're Muslim? By this logic... we better stop UAE from controlling everything else that they already control. We might as well put every Muslim in the world on the terrorist watch list.

Condi 3rd most popular politician

While the biggest part of this story was that Giuliani was the most popular, I think the biggest news is that Condi is the 3rd most popular behind McCain. I think that this is big news for the republican party. Condi's popularity could play a huge role in the 2008 election. FINALLY the country is realizing how good of a job she is doing at her job. They are realizing how strong of a leader she is.

Note: Hillary is only the 8th most popular.

According to the AP, Hillary says:

Responding to Republican claims that she may be too angry to win national office, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton told an audience Monday to wear such criticism as "a badge of honor" and suggested that gender played a role in the attacks.

She needs to realize that conservatives don't like her because she is a left wing extremist and a wishy-washy quack. No one likes a politician who is wishy-washy and completely opposite of their views.

Arts and Sciences department votes "no-confidence" in the President and Provost of Case

In an interesting turn of events, the faculty of the Arts and Sciences department have expressed their discontent with President Hundert and Provost Anderson. We received this in an email today:

The faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences at Case Western Reserve University has rendered a non-binding vote for no confidence in President Edward M. Hundert, M.D., and a separate vote for no confidence in Provost John L. Anderson during a special meeting today at Amasa Stone Chapel on the Case campus.

The final vote tally was 131-44 for no confidence in the president and 97-68 for no confidence in the provost, according to David Singer, professor of mathematics, who chaired the meeting.

The meeting was called by the Executive Committee of the College of Arts and Sciences in response to a petition by at least 10 percent of the faculty who had asked for the vote.

It should be interesting to see if anything else comes of this...

Will other departments follow suit?

Will the Board of Trustees accept the vote of no confidence?

I would like to hear what all of your opinions are on this matter.

Can this woman beat Hillary?

The Senate races are starting to heat up. It is possible that this woman, could dethrone the infamous Hillary Clinton.

Kathleen Troia McFarland, 54, a protégée of Henry A. Kissinger who has not been in public service since working as a Pentagon spokeswoman under President Ronald Reagan. Yet Ms. McFarland, known as K. T., is pretty green: She has been a stay-at-home mother since 1985, and was drawn to the Senate race only because she already believed she was going to lose her bid for a Congressional seat on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Even if she doesn't win, she could greatly weaken Hillary in the event she runs for president.

BUSH WARNED ABOUT KATRINA!!!! (still missing the point)

It is not FEMA's job to baby-sit every local government in existence. There are federal, state, and local governments for reasons. While federal government can often have more money... it moves slower... it is not as cost effective... and it is not as in touch with the people as state and local.

That said... it was not FEMA's job to protect New Orleans. It was not Bush's job. FIMA can help local and state governments after the event... but they can't be expected to do everything. The state and local governments must accept a MAJORITY of the responsibility of for evacuations, preparations, levy maintenance, and rescue in the event something bad happens. You do not see complaining like this in Florida because they do their part when hurricanes hit. The local and state governments do their job. If they don't... it's not the federal government's job to bail them out. Period.

BILL Clinton supports the UAE port deal

It turns out Bill Clinton advised the UAE company on how to tame the fears of politicians like his wife. Even though I hate to admit it... Bill Clinton is right sometimes. One thing this does show is that it's not Bush. I know you Dems love Clinton like us Republicans love Reagan... so you should respect his stance on this matter.

Bill Clinton, former US president, advised top officials from Dubai two weeks ago on how to address growing US concerns over the acquisition of five US container terminals by DP World.
Mr Clinton, who this week called the United Arab Emirates a “good ally to America”, advised Dubai’s leaders to propose a 45-day delay to allow for an intensive investigation of the acquisition, according to his spokesman.

Line Item Veto Will Help Cut Spending

There has been one big problem in congress lately... piggybacking spending bills. They have been repeatedly lumping foolish spending with crucial spending. This could be fixed by giving the president the right to use a line item veto. This would allow him to veto parts of spending bills so that congress cannot piggyback worthless spending on crucial bills. I am not a constitutional scholar... but I believe that this would require an amendment.

Liberal Bias in the classroom.... busted...

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come with stopping liberal bias in the classroom. I can't even begin to count the number of times professors have went on liberal Bush hating rants in nonpolitical classes. I remember one instance where in a COMMUNICATIONS course... our teacher gave a lecture on the "lack of intellectual diversity" on Bush's cabinet. I know one person who dropped out of political science at Case because his professors were treating him unfairly since he was an officer in the Case Republicans. This needs to stop as it did in this instance.
