DEMOCRAT passes sweeping abortion bill in Louisiana
Gov. Kathleen Blanco was expected to sign a strict abortion ban into law after the Senate on Monday gave the measure final legislative approval.Blanco has said she planned to sign the bill that would ban nearly all abortions in Louisiana
This is really surprising. Who would have thought that a DEMOCRAT would pass such a sweeping ban on the murder of babies? Gov. Blanco... also a democrat... says that she plans to sign it into law. I guess that makes up for her messing up of the Katrina relief.
Could this lead to the overturn of Roe vs. Wade?
I sure hope so. Roe vs. Wade is a crime against the constitution and should be overturned. Even if one does not believe in the right to life, one should still be able to see that applying the right to privacy to the right to kill your child is quite a ridiculous stretch.

Actually, the bill doesn't take effect unless Roe v. Wade is overturned or a constitutional ban on abortion passes.

It is a bill that can bring that case to court though. It's not something you'd expect a democrat to pass... especially now that we have a majority of literate people on the bench who will actually read the constitution to see that "The right to an abortion" is not in the there.

It's politics. Did you know there are some liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats floating around? There is actually a world where politicians do not believe they have to follow the entire party platform and that supporting its overall principles gives them more flexibility.
The only problem is that the way politicans interpet the legislation that defines the meaning of the Constitution. Even Republicans are known to flirt with the establishment clause of the First Amendment and use that for their overbearing foreign policy. Or how about the government using the commerce clause for national security reasons?
A democrat supporting a republican initiative is nothing new. It happens vice versa and the extreme supporters of the left and right are always upset by it.
It also shows a politican willing to break ranks with his/her party, and as always, one political party uses it to their advantage while the other ignores it saying it is a fluke.
