Kerry out of touch with reality

here is the language from his cut and run in Iraq bill:

Kerry Amdt. No. 4442; To require the redeployment of United States Armed Forces from Iraq in order to further a political solution in Iraq, encourage the people of Iraq to provide for their own security, and achieve victory in the war on terror.

Victory in the war on terror and cutting and running in the same statement… you have got to be kidding me….

Doesn't he realize that if we cut and run in Iraq, the terrorists get a major victory in the war on terror. Pulling out now would be like quitting a baseball game when you are up by 10 runs in the bottom of the ninth even with Bob Wickman on the mound. This war is almost over... we are nearing victory. The Iraqi army is not trained enough to fight off the insurgents on their own YET. If we pull out now, the government will likely lose its authority and a stateless regime would ensue. This is the ideal safe haven for terrorists. How is a safe haven for terrorists a victory in the war on terror? I'm sorry... I don't want Somalia the second (the result of Clinton's cut and run strategy).

Well, it wouldn't matter anyway. Even if you train the Iraqi Army fully and when the US troops leave, and the insurgents start conducting attacks, and the Iraqi troops fall apart... should we go back in again?

Why do you say that? Talk to people on the ground. They will tell you that the Iraqi troops are making progress in leaps and bounds. They are just simply not ALL ready to fend for themselves... but they are almost there.

You actually listen to Kerry talk? He said that everyone on the ground thinks that next summer is a reasonable amount of time to get the Iraqis ready, and that by setting a deadline and making a timetable we show them we're serious about leaving - something the Arab world supports. It would gain us political points and give them more incentive to protect themselves and find their own political solutions. In other words, we need to take steps so it's no longer our problem.

How does he know how long it is til they are ready? I think the military generals in charge know a lot more about that than some congressman. They will leave when they are ready... but setting a definate timetable is an awful idea. What happens if the scheduled pull out time comes and they're not ready? That would be a victory for the terrorists. It is best to leave this in the hands of those who operate the military for a living.

You act like you have been there and talked to Iraqi people yourself. When did you get back?

Our civilian and military leaders tell us that the Iraqi military will be able to handle the insurgency and the terrorist elements that are hiding in their government. But how definite is that?

I do not believe the US is willing to leave Iraq entirely. Who knows if there is an airbase somewhere in Iraq that will be used for the US military, and used as an "excuse" for American forces to return if the Iraqi military falls apart, or civil war occurs?
