Does Obama really know what he's doing?

Kerry tried to have one issue both ways... Obama is setting records. Here are a few points made by Dick Morris in his blog. He is a former Clinton campaign strategist, but he refuses to back Obama. He is going as far as backing Senator McCain recently.

If John Kerry was a flip-flopper... then Obama is flip-flopping enough to make a man dizzy. With John Kerry... I think that he was trying to have it both ways... with Obama... I think he just really lacks judgment and doesn't know what he's doing.

• After vowing to eschew private fundraising and take public financing, he has now refused public money.

• Once he threatened to filibuster a bill to protect telephone companies from liability for their cooperation with national security wiretaps; now he has voted for the legislation.

• Turning his back on a lifetime of support for gun control, he now recognizes a Second Amendment right to bear arms in the wake of the Supreme Court decision.

• Formerly, he told the Israeli lobby that he favored an undivided Jerusalem. Now he says he didn't mean it.

• From a 100 percent pro-choice position, he now has migrated to expressing doubts about allowing partial-birth abortions.

• For the first time, he now speaks highly of using church-based institutions to deliver public services to the poor.

• Having based his entire campaign on withdrawal from Iraq, he now pledges to consult with the military first.

• During the primary, he backed merit pay for teachers -- but before the union a few weeks ago, he opposed it.

• After specifically saying in the primaries that he disagreed with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-N.Y.) proposal to impose Social Security taxes on income over $200,000 and wanted to tax all income, he has now adopted the Clinton position.

“I will double foreign assistance by 2012”-Barack Obama

“I will double foreign assistance by 2012”-Barack Obama

This is truly disgusting. We are spending more money than we are taking in. We spent billions of dollars in 2007 on foreign aid. Where is the extra money going to come from? Shouldn’t we spend our tax dollars on things that help our economy or keep us safe? There are some things that Obama has said that I disagree with. This one is truly frightening. He wants to steal from the rich and toss the money right out of our economy.

Reverend Jesse Jackson disses Obama BIGTIME

“See, Barack been talking down to black people… I wanna cut his nuts out.”- Reverend Jesse Jackson -- July 9, 2008

Reverend Jesse Jackson said that he was addressing the fact that he is talking down to churchgoing black people... This is showing that Obama is doing a great job at bringing race issues that were going away BACK INTO AMERICAN POLITICS! Racism was a dying thing in america... he's helping to inject it back into politics. Congrats dude.

John McCain and Obama are radically different on taxation

John McCain wants to lower taxes to spur economic growth.

Barack wants to raise the taxes on the rich and small businesses. Small businesses are already suffering enough with the current state of the economy. Small businesses who file their taxes on their own will be affected by all these tax increases that supposedly affect “the rich.” Rich people also buy things at small businesses. I will quote my father who owns his own landscape business “I love rich people! They buy landscaping!”

Barack wants to raise the capital gains and dividends taxes… this would hit EVERYONE hard in the pocketbook.

Barack wants to raise the social security taxes (beat the dead horse with your paycheck).

Obama says he visited 57 states so far

Imagine if Bush said this... the media would be all over him. Barack Obama is not this god-like figure that many people think he is.

Barack Insane Obama wants to mandate Spanish in school

I heard Barack say in a speech, that we should mandate teaching Spanish in our high schools. WHY?! This is America… this is not Mexico. I have no problem with people learning Spanish voluntarily. Why would we mandate it?! We speak English in this country. The more I hear Barack Insane Obama talk, the more frightened I become. If he has his way, the government will be micromanaging all aspects of our lives. This is the land of freedom. This is the land of opportunity. Why would anyone want to change that?

Another thought:

Who would have thought that a candidate would be so awful, so socialist, so radical, so naive, that he makes Hillary Clinton look like a good option? That is truly incredible. Conservatives got it wrong… the anybody but Hillary campaign should have been an anybody but Barack campaign.

I AM AN AMERICAN!

I am taking today to reflect on what it truly means to be an American. Last month, I made a trip to China with the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band to perform in the cultural festival that builds up to the Olympic Games. We were welcomed into China with open arms. I got the chance to perform at the Great Wall of China, their most prestigious military hall, and the top high school in the entire country. I got to play for many famous people, see many amazing things, and played many songs. One of the most enlightening things on the trip was the 3rd-world nature of their working class. Our tour guide told us that her parents make 300 dollars a month while the government makes about $100,000 to $150,000 off of their shop. She also spoke about how hard it is for women and people of low social class to get anywhere in their culture. Being born as either dooms you to a mediocre career at best. America is different. I came out of a lower-middle social class family and I have made a life for myself. I will be making double what my parents make in my first year out of school.

As I belted out the strains of our nation's national anthem in Beijing, I was overcome with pride. Words cannot describe the feelings that were pouring out of my heart. At that moment, I realized how great we have it in this country. Despite what many of the pessimists of this country try to portray, anyone in this country can be successful if they try hard enough. This country truly is as Michael Medved says, "The greatest nation on God's green earth." As I reflect on the birthday of the United States of America, I am reminded of a poem that is read during every Purdue football pregame show:

Obama/McCain... polar opposites on many issues

Why am I know backing McCain?

During the primary, I stated that I John McCain was wrong on many issues. This is still true; however, he is right on many issues that Barack Obama is wrong on. Do I still think McCain is too liberal? You bet… but the difference between him an Obama is very clear.

Socialized Medicine:
Barack Obama is for socialized medicine and McCain is not.
As followers of this blog would notice, I am adamantly opposed to socialized medicine. I have a chronic disease that is getting the best treatment in the world despite my parents’ low income. I do not want to see the entire country get their health care determined by statistical models. I don’t want the cheapest treatments. I want the best treatments.

The war in Iraq:
Obama says pull out and let the Iraqi people suffer. McCain says finish the job.
We have won the war in Iraq. I know that fact is really difficult for many liberals to swallow. We have had an 80% reduction in Iraqi AND American casualties. Iraqi militias now run 45% of the missions in Iraq. 13 of the 15 benchmarks for success have been met. There have been more deaths in Afghanistan than Iraq in the last two months.

The Supreme Court:
Obama wants liberal activist judges. McCain wants constitutionalist judges.
McCain wants to put judges on the bench who will strictly interpret the constitution. This leaves legal decisions to the legislative bodies who have to answer to the people. I am sick and tired of the liberal judges on the court destroying our constitution. We have a legislative body and an amendment procedure for a reason.

Taxes:
Obama wants to raise taxes. McCain wants to lower taxes.
Anyone who has taken even the simplest economics course learns that taxes lead to inefficiencies. Europe, where the taxation is much higher than here, they have a 15% unemployment rate. That is triple ours. Obama wants to double the capital gains tax. Planning on dabbling in the stock market? Forget about it if Obama is president. You will now pay double taxes on that sucker. Making over $100k? Be prepared to pay more social security taxes. Under 40 and making 100k? Be prepared to invest more money into social security that you will get a 0% return on. Running a small business? Be prepared for a barrage of additional taxes when the Bush tax cuts are rolled back. Making over $250k? You better start stretching your hands… you’re going to be paying more additional taxes than you even want to think about. Are you an owner of an oil company? Be ready to hand over your profit despite the fact that you are making considerably less than many other industries percentage wise. This is just the tip of the iceberg. An Obama presidency will be a step towards socialism. A McCain presidency will be a step out of the economic troubles.

Experience:
What has Obama accomplished? Sure… he talks well. But what has he actually done. Lets compare:

Youth:
Obama’s youth consisted of cocaine and marijuana use. This is not slander, he has admitted this in his book.
McCain’s youth consisted of military service. He was a commander.

Time in the government:
Obama spent 7 years in the Illinois senate and never spearheaded any major legislation. He spent 1 year in the senate before abandoning it to run for president. He never spearheaded a major piece of legislation

McCain has been in Congress since the 80’s. He has spearheaded many major bills. He has shown an ability to work with other parties to get things done.

Obama has not accomplished anything in his life besides getting elected. Sure, he talks well, but does that give him enough to lead the free world? I don’t think so. People have said that McCain’s military service doesn’t make him ready to be commander in chief. If that doesn’t make him ready, how ready is Obama? He has not accomplished anything. His greatest accomplishment was setting the record for the most “present” votes in the Illinois senate. That is quite an achievement.

Entitlement Programs (Welfare):
McCain – reduce it. Obama – increase it.
One of the best things Bill Clinton did in office was reform welfare. He reduced the amount of money spent on welfare. The military budget is 15% of the nation’s budget. We need someone who is going to look to address that other 85%.

Social Security:
McCain – private accounts; Obama – raise taxes
This one is a no brainer. Look at the Ohio teachers’ union. Their privatized social security is awesome. They can retire after 30 years with 80% of their salary. I want that deal. With Social Security as it stands… I’m getting nothing.

Oil Drilling:
Obama don’t drill. McCain drill away.
We import 10 million barrels of oil per day. We can produce 1 million barrels a day in 5 years f we pump oil in the gulf (not visible from shore!). This would reduce our imports by 10%. We can reduce it by another 10% if we drill in ANWR. In addition to lowering the cost of oil, this will lower our dependence on foreign oil. This will keep our oil money in our economy. Why should we pay a premium to terrorist harboring countries when we have it on our soil? Why should we buy oil from China when they are pumping it out of the gulf? What happens if Israel and Iran go to war? What happens if that engulfs the whole region? We will have nowhere to get oil from. It is more than economics. Drilling for our own oil is a matter of national security.

Howard Dean endorses McCain

The real issue is this,” Dean said in March 2004, “Who would you rather have in charge of the defense of the United States of America, a group of people who never served a day overseas in their life, or a guy who served his country honorably and has three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star on the battlefields of Vietnam?”

Sounds like an endorsement of McCain to me. It's funny how he is preaching the opposite now!
