Obama and William Ayers' radical views on education

My father had mentioned over the summer how he had to read a paper by William Ayers as part of one of his education classes. He had mentioned how scary some of things that William Ayers had written about were. Now Barack Obama is trumpeting around saying how he worked with William Ayers on an education plan. What does William Ayers think about education? Let's use his own words. The following is an excerpt from a speech that he gave in November 2006 in Venezuela. He gave this speech for Hugo Chavez, one of our nation's enemies. William Ayers has disturbingly radical views on education and you should all know about them since Barack Obama has worked with him on education and launched his political career in his basement.

I began teaching when I was 20 years old in a small freedom school affiliated with the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. The year was 1965, and I’d been arrested in a demonstration. Jailed for ten days, I met several activists who were finding ways to link teaching and education with deep and fundamental social change. They were following Dewey and DuBois, King and Helen Keller who wrote: “We can’t have education without revolution. We have tried peace education for 1,900 years and it has failed. Let us try revolution and see what it will do now.”

I walked out of jail and into my first teaching position—and from that day until this I’ve thought of myself as a teacher, but I’ve also understood teaching as a project intimately connected with social justice. After all, the fundamental message of the teacher is this: you can change your life—whoever you are, wherever you’ve been, whatever you’ve done, another world is possible. As students and teachers begin to see themselves as linked to one another, as tied to history and capable of collective action, the fundamental message of teaching shifts slightly, and becomes broader, more generous: we must change ourselves as we come together to change the world. Teaching invites transformations, it urges revolutions small and large. La educacion es revolucion! (The education is the revolution)

Are you scared that this man has worked with Obama on education? Are you scared that William Ayers, someone who believes that education should be used to provoke revolutions, helped launch Barack Obama's political career? I sure am. Saying this guy is a loony does not serve it enough justice. If put in a position of power, this man could destroy America as we know it.

He's talking about the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT ... which was revolutionary for its time. Revolutions do not have to be violent. And don't forget, our country was founded on a revolution.

He is speaking of more than that... read his memoirs... he believes liberalism should be advanced through education.

I have read his books... I would not jump to such conclusions without doing so.

Somehow, I don't believe you.
First of, you begin by saying your dad read a paper by Ayers. You don't really write about Ayers in a way that makes you even appear to have first hand knowledge. I am guessing you just read snippets off conservative websites, and are taking them at face value.

Have you read his books? If you had... you would agree with me.

"Cast not the first stone"

There maybe more than a little truth in the story, but unless there ia a radical change in public sentiment it looks like an Obama shoo in.
