The Vice President IS the President of the Senate

Everyone keeps criticizing Sarah Palin for saying that the Vice President is the President of the Senate. However, this little document called the Constitution agrees with Sarah Palin. It explicitly says that the Vice President is the President of the Senate.

The Constitution

The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.

The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a President pro tempore, in the Absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the Office of President of the United States.

The importance of being the President of the Senate is to cast the deciding vote if the chamber is tied. Otherwise, the President of the Senate has no vote.
