Reverend Jesse Jackson disses Obama BIGTIME
“See, Barack been talking down to black people… I wanna cut his nuts out.”- Reverend Jesse Jackson -- July 9, 2008
Reverend Jesse Jackson said that he was addressing the fact that he is talking down to churchgoing black people... This is showing that Obama is doing a great job at bringing race issues that were going away BACK INTO AMERICAN POLITICS! Racism was a dying thing in america... he's helping to inject it back into politics. Congrats dude.
John McCain and Obama are radically different on taxation
John McCain wants to lower taxes to spur economic growth.
Barack wants to raise the taxes on the rich and small businesses. Small businesses are already suffering enough with the current state of the economy. Small businesses who file their taxes on their own will be affected by all these tax increases that supposedly affect “the rich.” Rich people also buy things at small businesses. I will quote my father who owns his own landscape business “I love rich people! They buy landscaping!”
Barack wants to raise the capital gains and dividends taxes… this would hit EVERYONE hard in the pocketbook.
Barack wants to raise the social security taxes (beat the dead horse with your paycheck).
Obama says he visited 57 states so far
Imagine if Bush said this... the media would be all over him. Barack Obama is not this god-like figure that many people think he is.
Barack Insane Obama wants to mandate Spanish in school
I heard Barack say in a speech, that we should mandate teaching Spanish in our high schools. WHY?! This is America… this is not Mexico. I have no problem with people learning Spanish voluntarily. Why would we mandate it?! We speak English in this country. The more I hear Barack Insane Obama talk, the more frightened I become. If he has his way, the government will be micromanaging all aspects of our lives. This is the land of freedom. This is the land of opportunity. Why would anyone want to change that?
Another thought:
Who would have thought that a candidate would be so awful, so socialist, so radical, so naive, that he makes Hillary Clinton look like a good option? That is truly incredible. Conservatives got it wrong… the anybody but Hillary campaign should have been an anybody but Barack campaign.
Obama/McCain... polar opposites on many issues
Why am I know backing McCain?
During the primary, I stated that I John McCain was wrong on many issues. This is still true; however, he is right on many issues that Barack Obama is wrong on. Do I still think McCain is too liberal? You bet… but the difference between him an Obama is very clear.
Socialized Medicine:
Barack Obama is for socialized medicine and McCain is not.
As followers of this blog would notice, I am adamantly opposed to socialized medicine. I have a chronic disease that is getting the best treatment in the world despite my parents’ low income. I do not want to see the entire country get their health care determined by statistical models. I don’t want the cheapest treatments. I want the best treatments.
The war in Iraq:
Obama says pull out and let the Iraqi people suffer. McCain says finish the job.
We have won the war in Iraq. I know that fact is really difficult for many liberals to swallow. We have had an 80% reduction in Iraqi AND American casualties. Iraqi militias now run 45% of the missions in Iraq. 13 of the 15 benchmarks for success have been met. There have been more deaths in Afghanistan than Iraq in the last two months.
The Supreme Court:
Obama wants liberal activist judges. McCain wants constitutionalist judges.
McCain wants to put judges on the bench who will strictly interpret the constitution. This leaves legal decisions to the legislative bodies who have to answer to the people. I am sick and tired of the liberal judges on the court destroying our constitution. We have a legislative body and an amendment procedure for a reason.
Taxes:
Obama wants to raise taxes. McCain wants to lower taxes.
Anyone who has taken even the simplest economics course learns that taxes lead to inefficiencies. Europe, where the taxation is much higher than here, they have a 15% unemployment rate. That is triple ours. Obama wants to double the capital gains tax. Planning on dabbling in the stock market? Forget about it if Obama is president. You will now pay double taxes on that sucker. Making over $100k? Be prepared to pay more social security taxes. Under 40 and making 100k? Be prepared to invest more money into social security that you will get a 0% return on. Running a small business? Be prepared for a barrage of additional taxes when the Bush tax cuts are rolled back. Making over $250k? You better start stretching your hands… you’re going to be paying more additional taxes than you even want to think about. Are you an owner of an oil company? Be ready to hand over your profit despite the fact that you are making considerably less than many other industries percentage wise. This is just the tip of the iceberg. An Obama presidency will be a step towards socialism. A McCain presidency will be a step out of the economic troubles.
Experience:
What has Obama accomplished? Sure… he talks well. But what has he actually done. Lets compare:
Youth:
Obama’s youth consisted of cocaine and marijuana use. This is not slander, he has admitted this in his book.
McCain’s youth consisted of military service. He was a commander.
Time in the government:
Obama spent 7 years in the Illinois senate and never spearheaded any major legislation. He spent 1 year in the senate before abandoning it to run for president. He never spearheaded a major piece of legislation
McCain has been in Congress since the 80’s. He has spearheaded many major bills. He has shown an ability to work with other parties to get things done.
Obama has not accomplished anything in his life besides getting elected. Sure, he talks well, but does that give him enough to lead the free world? I don’t think so. People have said that McCain’s military service doesn’t make him ready to be commander in chief. If that doesn’t make him ready, how ready is Obama? He has not accomplished anything. His greatest accomplishment was setting the record for the most “present” votes in the Illinois senate. That is quite an achievement.
Entitlement Programs (Welfare):
McCain – reduce it. Obama – increase it.
One of the best things Bill Clinton did in office was reform welfare. He reduced the amount of money spent on welfare. The military budget is 15% of the nation’s budget. We need someone who is going to look to address that other 85%.
Social Security:
McCain – private accounts; Obama – raise taxes
This one is a no brainer. Look at the Ohio teachers’ union. Their privatized social security is awesome. They can retire after 30 years with 80% of their salary. I want that deal. With Social Security as it stands… I’m getting nothing.
Oil Drilling:
Obama don’t drill. McCain drill away.
We import 10 million barrels of oil per day. We can produce 1 million barrels a day in 5 years f we pump oil in the gulf (not visible from shore!). This would reduce our imports by 10%. We can reduce it by another 10% if we drill in ANWR. In addition to lowering the cost of oil, this will lower our dependence on foreign oil. This will keep our oil money in our economy. Why should we pay a premium to terrorist harboring countries when we have it on our soil? Why should we buy oil from China when they are pumping it out of the gulf? What happens if Israel and Iran go to war? What happens if that engulfs the whole region? We will have nowhere to get oil from. It is more than economics. Drilling for our own oil is a matter of national security.
Howard Dean endorses McCain
The real issue is this,” Dean said in March 2004, “Who would you rather have in charge of the defense of the United States of America, a group of people who never served a day overseas in their life, or a guy who served his country honorably and has three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star on the battlefields of Vietnam?”
Sounds like an endorsement of McCain to me. It's funny how he is preaching the opposite now!
Romney for VP?
There is a strong case for a Mitt Romney vice presidential nod. There are 3 main reasons why Mitt Romney should get the nod. Romney will give help the ticket on economical issues, enthusiasm, and geographical advantages.
Both John McCain and Barack Obama are not known for their sound economic policies. Most polls have indicated that the economy is the number one issue in this election. Mitt Romney’s strong suit is his economic prowess. He has devoted his entire life to our nation’s economy. He has been successfully economically in both the political and business arenas. John McCain can use Mitt Romney’s economic savvy to give credibility to his economic platform.
Mitt Romney can bring the needed enthusiasm to take on Barack Obama. A lot of the grass roots of this party supported Romney in the primary and feel like they have someone who is not conservative enough for them. Mitt could help rally the troops without damaging McCain’s maverick image because conservatives view Romney as a conservative and moderates view him as a moderate. He has shown that his business savvy translates directly to successful fundraising. His advisors have claimed that he could raise 50 million in 60 days. Now that Barack Obama has turned down public financing, money is a huge issue. Mitt Romney also brings some youth and vigor to the campaign. He can give the ticket the shot in the arm that it needs.
Mitt Romney can help the ticket in states where McCain is lagging. The race is close and leaning slightly democrat in New Hampshire, Connecticut, Nevada, Colorado, Ohio, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, and Florida. Romney can significantly help in these states. He has done very well with blue collar workers, Mormons, and economic conservatives. These states have a large number of those demographics.
Mitt Romney can give McCain’s campaign the shot in the arm that it needs. He will help make the economic conservatives feel better about voting for McCain. He will help deliver states that are on the border. Mitt Romney will also help bolster the fundraising effort. McCain/Romney 2008 is a winning combination.
John McCain vs. Barack Obama resume comparison
Political Resumes:
The following is to show how incomparable the nominees’ resumes are. John McCain is qualified and experienced. Obama has accomplished nothing in his life besides winning elections.
John McCain (condensed version):
Graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1958
McCain requested a combat assignment so he could put his life on the line for his country despite the fact that there was a strong chance he would lose his life.
While on a bombing mission over North Vietnam, he was shot down, badly injured, and captured as a prisoner of war by the North Vietnamese. He was a prisoner of war for 6
years.
McCain was almost killed on July 29, 1967 when he was at the epicenter of the Forrestal fire. He escaped from his burning jet and was trying to help another pilot escape when a bomb exploded
The North Vietnamese wanted release McCain to make it look like to other POWs that elites like McCain were willing to be treated preferentially. McCain said no and was tortured horribly for turning down release. This shows he is able to put his country before himself.
Commanded a large squadron of ships
US congressman for 26 years
He is a Ranking Member of the Armed Services Committee.
Member of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs.
Showed an ability to negotiate with people who disagree with him by joining Senator Feingold to pass Campaign Finance Reform despite fellow republicans claiming the bill was not conservative enough. He showed he could put his country before his party allegiances. This is something Barack Obama has never done.
He spearheaded the line-item veto bill.
Chairman of the powerful Senate Commerce Committee
He stood up against Rumsfeld’s Iraq strategy despite resistance from his party. The change in strategy that resulted is credited for major progress made in the war.
Worked with many democrats to stop the disastrous Harriet Miers nomination by George Bush. His actions led to the appointment of Roberts and Alito. They are two of the strongest constitutionalists on the court.
Spearheaded legislation to stop torture of prisoners of war
Spearheaded legislation against Bush and the rest of his party including HMO reform, climate change, and gun legislation
Spearheaded an effort to reduce spending.
Spearheaded effort to stop earmarks. He has been nicknamed the sheriff for the amount of earmarks that he has stopped.
He has voted with his party only 63% of the time showing he is willing to put the country ahead of political parties.
Barack Obama (expanded version):
Did cocaine and marijuana in his youth.
State senator for 7 years.
Here is a list of his accomplishments while he was in the state senate:
Voted “present” 130 times rather than actually voting to represent his constituency on issues like partial-birth abortion, gun control, and the prohibition of strip clubs.
(the end of accomplishment list)
US Senator for less than one term:
Senate Foreign Relations Committee member, but has yet to attend a meeting on Afghanistan.
Has not spearheaded ANY legislation.
Voted with his party 97% of the time according to an independent study (the highest percentage of any senator).
Barack "Jimmy Carter" Obama is dead wrong on energy
With the skyrocketing energy costs, energy policies are coming front and center in this election. Barack Obama has taken the wrong side of three major issues. John McCain has gotten it right on nuclear power, ethanol, and oil drilling.
John McCain has pledged to build 45 nuclear power plants by 2030 if he is elected president. This would be a 50% increase. Barack Obama said that he does not believe nuclear power is part of the solution to our energy problems. These are two starkly different stances on nuclear power. Nuclear power produces 0 carbon emissions. It does not require any fossil fuels. This would also free up our coal resources to export overseas to help offset the trade deficit.
John McCain has come out against the further subsidizing of ethanol while Obama has come out in support of such subsidies. The subsidies break down to about a dollar a gallon of gas. It takes over 450 pounds of corn to fill an SUV gas tank. Sure, this does not require imports of oil; however it does raise the prices of food. High fructose corn syrup is in just about everything that we eat. Therefore, every time the supply of corn for consumption is shrunk, the price of food increases.
John McCain is absolutely correct with his support for drilling domestically. ANWR alone could pump out one million barrels of oil each day. We import 10 million barrels of foreign oil each day. This would offset that need by 10%. If we expand this to offshore drilling, we could offset a large amount of our foreign dependence. There would be more supply of oil in the country. This would lower the price of oil significantly. This would reduce our dependence on foreign oil significantly. This is the solution to our problem while we continue to develop technologies like the hydrogen fuel cell. Barack Obama does not even want to consider this. He is telling the country that he would rather stick to his partisan policies than help our country’s oil problems.
John McCain and Barack Obama differ on three major energy issues. Barack Obama is taking positions that will destroy our nation’s economy. John McCain is standing up for the American people. Barack Obama is standing up for his environmental lobbyists. John McCain is standing up for the American economy. Barack Obama is standing up for the economic policies that derailed this country under Jimmy Carter. Barack Obama is standing up for policies that will return this country to the dark days of the 1970’s. John McCain is standing up for economic policies that will assure that the United States will remain the global voice for freedom, hope, and prosperity.
The best exchanges of the campaign
Here are some of the best exchanges of the campaign. McCain's exchange makes it very difficult to support McCain. As I remember this, it makes it incredibly difficult to support him in the general election. I am struggling to throw my support to John McCain after the Clintonian stunt he pulled in Florida and on Super Tuesday against Mitt Romney.
Romney vs. Huckabee
HUCKABEE: And the fact is there were specific issues that I’ve
been attacked for, sometimes pretty brutally on some of these
television spots, but I’m proud of the fact that I governed and
lowered taxes, and did something that had never been done in my state,
and did it against the headwinds of a Democratic legislature that had
never done it in 160 years before.WALLACE: Governor Romney?
ROMNEY: Well, facts are different things.
I think, Mike, you agreed that net-net, you raised taxes by half
a billion dollars. Is that right?HUCKABEE: You know, Mitt, let’s talk about how stubborn the
facts are. Answer the question.HUCKABEE: The fees I think you raised were more like half a
billion dollars, not $240 million. You came into office…ROMNEY: Mike, I asked you a question…
HUCKABEE: … with a deficit, and you left with one.
ROMNEY: You know, the let’s — facts are stubborn things. Let’s
get the facts right, OK? I came in with a…HUCKABEE: And you opposed those Bush tax cuts in 2002.
ROMNEY: You know, Mike, you make up facts faster than you talk,
and that’s saying something. So let’s slow it down and let’s get the
facts correctly.HUCKABEE: All right.
ROMNEY: I came in, there was a $3 billion budget gap. Together
with the legislature, we cut spending, we also raised fees, and we
calculated how much money we raised in the fees.It was $240 million. We can show you the number. And at the end
of my first year, we had a surplus. Every single year I was in office
I generated a surplus, and we put over a billion dollars in our rainy
day fund. Now, I asked you a question to begin with. And that was, net-
net, did you raise taxes in your state by half a billion dollars?
HUCKABEE: We raised jobs, we built our roads.ROMNEY: You know, that’s political speak.
HUCKABEE: You know, Mitt…
ROMNEY: The question is — you can avoid this issue by just
saying…HUCKABEE: … you spent tens of millions of dollars sayings all
negative things about me. If someone raises a question, you say it’s
a personal attack. And facts are stubborn things, and you mentioned
that. And did you support or oppose the 2002 Bush tax cuts?ROMNEY: I have never opposed the Bush 2002 tax cuts. I
supported them. The first comment I made about the Bush tax cuts was
that I supported the Bush tax cuts.I do not oppose them. I support them, always have.
Now let me go back to the question I’ve asked you that you
refused to answer three times — did you raise taxes, net, in Arkansas
by $500 million?HUCKABEE: By a court order that said we had to improve
education. Maybe — maybe you don’t have to obey the court in
Massachusetts. I did in Arkansas. And you know something? Education
is a good thing for kids, because kids…ROMNEY: I agree.
Romney vs. McCain
HOOK: Yes. I'd like to start with Governor Romney.Obviously, Iraq is still a major issue in this campaign, and over the last few days there's been a real back-and-forth going on here. Senator McCain has said over and over again that you supported a timetable for a phased withdrawal from Iraq.
Is that true?
ROMNEY: Absolutely, unequivocal -- if I can get that word out -- unequivocably, absolutely no. I have never, ever supported a specific timetable for exit from Iraq.
ROMNEY: And it's offensive to me that someone would suggest that I have.
And I have noted that everyone from Time magazine to Bill Bennett over there to actually CNN's own analysts, he said it was a lie and it's absolutely wrong.
I do not support that, never have. We've had -- we've -- and Senator McCain pointed to an interview I had back in April with ABC, when I said that our president and their prime minister should have timetables and milestones.
We have timetables and milestones for progress that we're making together. But I never suggested a date specific to withdraw and, were to give you a date specific for withdrawal, would you, Senator, veto it?" I said I'd veto it.
I'm opposed to setting a specific date for withdrawal. By the way, we've had, since that time, 10-12 debates. Senator McCain never raised that question in any of those debates.
If he ever wondered what my position was, he could have raised it. I instead have pointed out time and time again, and let me make it absolutely clear again tonight, I will not pull our troops out until we have brought success in Iraq, and that means, for me, that we do not have safe havens for al Qaeda or Hezbollah or anyone else, that our troops have secured the population from that kind of threat, that they will not have safe havens from which they could launch attacks against us.
And if there's any misunderstanding, those words should make it perfectly clear, as have every single debate that I've attended...
COOPER: Senator...
ROMNEY: ... 15 debates. I do not propose nor have I ever proposed a public or secret date for withdrawal. It's just simply wrong.
And by the way, raising it a few days before the Florida primary, when there was very little time for me to correct the record, when the date of withdrawal," sort of falls in the kind of dirty tricks that I think Ronald Reagan would have found to be reprehensible.
(APPLAUSE)
COOPER: Senator McCain, tough words.
MCCAIN: Well, of course, he said he wanted a timetable. Before that, we have to understand that we lost the 2006 election and the Democrats thought that they had a mandate. They thought they had a mandate to get us out of Iraq.
And I was prepared to sacrifice whatever was necessary in order to stand up for what I believed in.
Now, in December of 2006, after the election, Governor Romney was won't weigh in. I'm a governor."
At the time, he didn't want to weigh in because he was a governor, I was out there on the front lines with my friends saying, "We not only can't withdraw, but we've got to have additional troops over there in order for us to have a chance to succeed."
Then in April, April was a very interesting year (sic) in 2007. That's when Harry Reid said the war is lost and we've got to get out. And the buzzword was "timetables, timetables."
Governor, the right answer to that question was "no," not what you said, and that was we don't want to have them lay in the weeds until we leave and Maliki and the president should enter into some kind of agreement for, quote, "timetables."
"Timetables" was the buzzword for the...
ROMNEY: Why don't you use the whole quote, Senator?
MCCAIN: ... withdrawal. That...
ROMNEY: Why don't you use the whole quote? Why do you insist on...
MCCAIN: I'm using the whole quote, where you said "I won't"...
ROMNEY: ... not using the actual quote? That's not what I said.
MCCAIN: The actual quote is, "We don't want them to lay in the weeds until we leave." That is the actual quote and I'm sure...
ROMNEY: What does that mean?
MCCAIN: ... fact-checkers --
ROMNEY: What is the meaning?
MCCAIN: It means a timetable until we leave.
ROMNEY: Listen, Senator, let's...
COOPER: Let me jump in, because the quote that I have...
ROMNEY: Is it not fair -- is it not fair to have the person who's being accused of having a position he doesn't have be the expert on what his position is?
How is it that you're the expert on my position, when my position has been very clear?
(APPLAUSE)
I'll tell you, this is...
MCCAIN: I'm the expert. I'm the expert on this. When you said...
ROMNEY: This is the kind -- this is the kind -- this is...
MCCAIN: ... "I won't weigh in. I'm a governor." You couldn't weigh in because you were a governor...
ROMNEY: That's a separate point.
MCCAIN: ... back when we were having the fight over it.
ROMNEY: That's a separate point.
MCCAIN: The fact is...
ROMNEY: That's a separate point.
MCCAIN: ... that I have fought for this surge. I have said we need to have this succeed. I know the situation in Iraq and I am proud to have supported this president and supported the fact that we are succeeding in Iraq today.
ROMNEY: There's...
MCCAIN: If we had done -- if we had waited and laid in the weeds until we leave, then al Qaeda would have won and we would be facing a disastrous situation in the...
COOPER: There's two separate issues being discussed...
MCCAIN: ... today.
COOPER: ... and I just want to clarify both of them. First of all...
MCCAIN: These are...
COOPER: ... Senator McCain...
MCCAIN: ... quotes that I am giving you that are direct quotes.
COOPER: So, Senator McCain, the quote is from Governor Romney on GMA that you've been quoting. The actual quote is, "Well, there's no question that the president and Prime Minister al-Maliki have to have a series of timetables and milestones"...
MCCAIN: Timetables and milestones.
COOPER: ... "that they speak about, but those shouldn't be for public pronouncement. You don't want the enemy to understand how long they have to wait in the weeds until you're going to be gone."
MCCAIN: You don't have to...
COOPER: He does not say he is supporting a withdrawal.
MCCAIN: ... wait until the enemy lays in the weeds until we leave. That means that we were leaving.
COOPER: It's open to interpretation.
MCCAIN: If we weren't leaving, how could the enemy lay in the weeds?
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: Senator, if you have question on this, if you have a question on this, you can just ask it.
MCCAIN: I'm sorry you did not have -- could not weigh in as governor on the surge when it was the critical issue. And I'm sorry...
(CROSSTALK)
COOPER: ... so let me just allow you to respond to the issue of the going to be gone, laying in the weeds question.
MCCAIN: Timetables was the buzzword for those that wanted to get out.
COOPER: OK.
(CROSSTALK)
COOPER: And you're saying, point blank, you did not want to get out then. What did you mean by that statement?
ROMNEY: That we have a series of timetables and milestones for working on the progress that they're making, the progress we're making, the rule of law, what their soldiers are doing, what our soldiers are doing.
COOPER: OK.
ROMNEY: How many troops they're able to recruit, how well the following question, "do you have a specific time, would you support Congress if they gave you a specific time?" I said "absolutely not."
COOPER: Let me -- OK, on the...
ROMNEY: By the way, this has been around. If this was a question, it could have been raised in April or May.
COOPER: On the second issue...
ROMNEY: But it was raised...
(CROSSTALK)
COOPER: I want to give you an opportunity...
MCCAIN: It was raised many times. I raised it many times, as to whether you have the experience and the judgment to lead this country in the war against radical Islamic extremism. I've raised that many times.
ROMNEY: Senator McCain...
MCCAIN: And I will continue to raise it.
COOPER: I want to give you, Governor Romney...
(CROSSTALK)
COOPER: ... a chance to respond to the other accusation.
(CROSSTALK)
COOPER: All right. Let's just focus on this, the second one, which is the issue that Senator McCain raised, which was actually back in the surge, when you were a governor, and you did say you would not take a position.
This was in January -- excuse me -- December of 2006. Two months later, you announced you were running for president.
Why two months before you were running for president were you not willing to take a position on supporting or not supporting a surge?
ROMNEY: Look, as governor of the state, there are a lot of issues of a federal nature that I didn't take a position on. I was running a state. My responsibility was for running a state. When I became a governor, I took a whole series of positions on national issues. That's normal and natural.
With regard to the surge, the briefing that I received -- I received an early briefing from Fred Kagan on the size of our military. After I received that, I said I support increasing our military by at least 100,000. And then just prior to the president's announcement of the surge, I spoke again with Fred Kagan, and he laid out the philosophy of the surge, his vision for it. As you know, many consider him one of the authors of the surge idea. And when he gave me that report, I met with my staff and announced that day that I supported a surge. The president announced later that day the entire program.
So I supported it as a candidate for president, No. 1.
No. 2, with regards to this idea that I favor a specific date for withdrawal -- I do not. We've had, I believe since that interview that the senator quotes, we've had 10 or 12 debates. He's never raised that issue with me. He's never said, "are you for a date specific?" had, I said I will not leave Iraq until we have secured Iraq, make sure it will never become a safe haven.
And what's interesting here is it's an attempt to do the Washington-style old politics, which is lay a charge out there, regardless of whether it's true or not, don't check it, don't talk to the other candidate, just throw it out there, get it in the media and the stream.
There's not a single media source that I've seen that hasn't said it wasn't reprehensible. Even the New York Times said it was wrong. The Washington Post -- they endorsed you -- The Washington Post gave you three Pinocchios for it. It's simply -- it's simply wrong, and the senator knows it.
Mitt Romney: The future of the Republican Party
This video, built using Mitt Romney's CPAC speech... reminds me why I have supported Mitt Romney, why I support him now, and why I will support him in the future. Mitt Romney will return the United States to the great nation that it once was.
Romney and Paul supporters for Huckabee
Huckabee cannot win in the primaries... but he can take this to a brokered convention. The only chance Romney and Paul have is to bring this to a brokered convention. I do not want McCain to be our nominee. I do not support Huckabee's platform either; however, I will vote for him because I want to bring this to the convention. If I have to choose between Obama and McCain I will bring a puke bucket to the polls and vote for McCain... but I would much rather get the chance to support a true CONSERVATIVE.
Vote Huckabee!
Setting the story straignt about Mitt Romney
This video outlines all the false claims brought against Mitt Romney this campaign. Flip-flopper? I don't think so. Sure... he flipped on abortion(which he has a 100% executive record on)... but he doesn't flip flop back and forth to try and have it both ways. He says he is pro life even if it hurts him politically against pro choice voters. I challenge you to find any flips besides abortion.
Potential VP candidates
Mike Pence- Being at Purdue, I hear a lot about this guy. He is a conservative's conservative. He has a strong conservative voting record.
Mitt Romney - How do you bring in the alienated Romney supporters? Work their candidate into your campaign. I know they hate each other... but I think they could settle their differences for the sake of the country.
Ken Blackwell - He has raised his stock as a conservative voice in america. Ken Blackwell, referred to as a black version of Ronald Reagan on this blog, could reassure many voters.
Steve Forbes - He is another businessman. Many would welcome adding a businessman to the administration.
Newt Gingrich - He is one of the most intellectual conservatives out there. He helped orchestrate the conservative takeover of congress. He is slightly polarizing, but I think that compared to McCain, he doesn't have much of a problem there.
Huckabee - No way this happens. He would alienate the conservatives in the party even more than they already are.
Fred Thompson - He would be an excellent choice. He is very conservative. His does carry a bit of baggage with his history as a lobbyist and some marriage issues. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations which has drawn criticism.
Interesting note:
Council on Foreign Relations members:
1) Dick Cheney
2) John McCain
3) Joe Lieberman
4) Fred Thompson
5) Newt Gingrich
6) Alan Greenspan
7) Bill Clinton
8) Jimmy Carter
They do all seem to be helping each other... Fred Thompson, Newt Gingrich, and Joe Lieberman all helped to get McCain in.
It's about the Judges stupid!
Now that the emotions have calmed down a bit... there is a bit of a conservative case for McCain in a race against Obama or Clinton. There are 6 judges over the age of 68 on the supreme court. Who would you want to set the supreme court for the next generation... John McCain or Hillary?
Reports: Romney to suspend campaign
This is troubling... however... there is one thing that McCain can do to reassure me and many other Romney supporters. He needs to pick a strong fiscal conservative for his Vice President. I think Mitt Romney would be a smart pick. There are many other possibilities. I sit and wait... and remain an undecided voter.
Mitt Romney has the message that can take down Hillary or Obama
Why I support Mitt Romney
I am going to be graduating from Purdue University in less than a year. I am ready to go off into the wild unknown that is the real world. I worked very hard to get George W. Bush into office. I witnessed the Newt Gingrich Revolution, the George H.W. Bush Presidency, and a bit of the Reagan Presidency. I have seen quite a volatile few decades. Many of my friends have graduated already. Many of them still want to live in Ohio, but there are NO JOBS. While the economy is doing well, Ohio is in a two state recession with Michigan. This has driven the economy front and center this election cycle. There is one man that can turn around the state of Ohio and the rest of this country, and that man is Mitt Romney
I witnessed both Bushes shrink away from their conservative principles at the hands of people they owe favors to. I saw both Bushes shy away from their conservative principles at any sign of trouble. Looking back into history, lifelong politicians have a hard time getting things done Washington. They lack that certain ability to look outside the box. Mitt Romney has that ability.
Mitt Romney spent 25 years in the private sector before becoming governor of Massachusetts. He was in an industry known as venture capitalism. The role of a venture capitalist is to invest in troubled companies, take executive control, and turn the companies around. This included domestic and global businesses. He would essentially take executive leadership of the company, trim out wasteful spending, and remove and corruption in the system. One of his finest success stories is that of the well known office company Staples. His finest moment came shortly after September 11th. The Olympic Games were in peril. There was corruption among top executives and catastrophic budget shortfalls. The committee in charge of the games decided to bring in Mitt Romney to turn around the games. He did exactly that. He pulled off the games without any problems what-so-ever. This shows that he can turn around a corrupt over budget organization. This is a miniature version of our federal government. He could purge corruption and streamline our government so that our economy is improved.
Mitt Romney showed that he can apply his strong sense of economics to the business world when he was elected governor of Massachusetts. He turned a 1.3 billion dollar deficit into a 500 million dollar surplus while cutting taxes. This was all done while lowering taxes and cutting spending.
Mitt Romney has a lot of knowledge on the global economy from his time as a venture capitalist. He understands the threat of China to our economy. He is the only one who consistently mentions it on the trail and during debates. He understands that we have to take measures to compete in global market. Mitt Romney knows what types of regulations and taxes need to be addressed for job creation.
Mitt Romney’s economic expertise will be very important against the democrats. As I come closer to entering the working world, there is one thing on my mind, the economy. JOBS JOBS JOBS! It’s the economy stupid! Lets face it, the economy will be the leading issue next November. Mitt Romney is someone who can take the Democrats to town the economy. More importantly, he is someone who can get our economy back on the right chance if only given the opportunity. Mitt Romney is someone who can come into Washington and strengthen the US economy to points it has never seen before.
"This is not a time to shrink from CONSERVATIVE principles" - Mitt Romney
John McCain has been wrong on many of the most important issues of our time. I am reaching out to Huckabee and Paul supporters... get behind the person who will stand up for CONSERVATIVE principles. While you may not agree how Romney applies those in all cases... he will not shrink from his conservative principles. He stands the best chance of taking down McCain. America is asking for your vote.
“Never give in — never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
– Winston Churchill, 29 October 1941
(thanks to bethtopaz for supplying me with this beautiful quote)
Courtesy of Paul Mirengoff's endorsement of Mitt Romney.
The decision thus comes down to policy and effectiveness. I give Romney the edge on both counts.Rick Santorum says that when he was in the Senate, there were three parties -- the Democratic party, the Republican party, and the McCain party. This is an exaggeration, but it contains some truth. Think of McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, "McCain-Byrd" (the gang of 14 deal), and now McCain-Lieberman. On some of the most important issues of our time -- political speech, immigration, judicial nominations, taxation, and now climate change -- McCain has been more comfortable with liberal or centrist positions than with conservative Republican ones. Let’s not deceive ourselves into believing that this will change if McCain gains the highest office in the land. It’s far more likely that we’ll actually have a McCain party instead of just a McCain faction.
...
Finally, we get to the question of effectiveness and administrative ability. Romney has demonstrated these qualities throughout his career; McCain not so much. Yet, McCain is correct when he asserts his superiority over Romney in terms of foreign policy and national security experience, and when he takes credit for his role in denouncing the administration's approach in Iraq and leading the charge in favor of the surge. Though McCain misrepresents the facts about what Romney said on the subject, there’s no doubt that, where McCain led, Romney followed – and cautiously at that.
In the end, the choice boils down to two very different decisionmaking styles. Romney decides by immersion in "the data." McCain decides based on “instinct” – some combination of a few old-fashioned conservative values (keep government spending down and our defense strong); generalizations from his experience (e.g., torture didn't work on me, so waterboarding should be outlawed); and whatever he happens to pick up from people of various persuasions whom he happens to respect.
Instinct can trump data mining at times, especially with respect to decisions that fall within the decisionmaker's area of expertise. It did so with respect to the surge. However, as I put it a few days ago, "a president who consistently relies on instinct and pooh-poohs data is likely to make major mistakes. Unless one thinks McCain is a genius (and I don't), we'd probably be better off with Romney's approach to making decisions.”
Mitt Romney understands the GLOBAL Economy... IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID!
Our economy is slowing... in order to remain the strongest economy in the world. We must get behind someone who understands the economy. John McCain is not that person. He was quoted saying that he doesn't know much about the economy. Mitt Romney was in the economy for 25 years! He helped build global companies. He knows how to create jobs. He knows what taxes and regulations he needs to address to stop america from losing it's economic super power status. Mitt Romney knows how a GLOBAL ECONOMY works. Life-long politicians can talk about economics, but they have never run anything. Being the chair of a committee in congress does not teach a person how our economy works. Running businesses teaches a person about the economy. Mitt Romney has lived a very successful life because he understands the economy. He was brought in to turn around the corrupted, over budget, olympics. Everyone said it was NOT POSSIBLE. He did it. He turned the games around. He can do the same in Washington.
Santorum, Hannity, Ingraham endorse Romney
While the RINOs are endorsing McCain, the grass roots conservative leaders are endorsing Romney. Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Senator Rick Santorum have all endorsed Romney today. They understand that this is a fight to the death for conservatism. This nominee will define the republican party of the future. Are we the party of fiscal conservatism and social conservatism? If McCain gets the nod, NO. This is why we must fight together. A vote for Huckabee or Paul is a vote for McCain. Romney may not be your number 1 candidate, but ask yourself this. Do you want the Republican party to be the Diet Coke of liberalism?
Romney the best candidate to take on Hillary Clinton
He can pose himself as an outsider pitting himself against washington. Hillary IS washington. Romney also is very resolute at debates. He won almost all of the GOP debates. He would do the same against Hillary or Obama.
Purdue beats #11 Wisconsin
As many may know, I have transfered to Purdue. I am taking a break from politics for a little sports. There is a great story in the Big Ten this season. After a lull for several years, Purdue Basketball is back! Purdue recruited 4 of the top recruits in the country for this season. However, they had little on the team returning to help shape these rookies. Yesterday, purdue's 4 freshman played a majority of the minutes. There is only one senior on this team. Despite their youth, their coach Matt Painter turned this team into a legitimate big ten title contender.
Yesterday was a huge step for Purdue's basketball program. They beat the number 11 team in the country, Wisconsin, 60-56. It came down to a last second play. Wisconsin got the ball with 10 seconds left down 58-56. Wisconsin penetrated the defense and went for what was thought to be an easy layup. Robbie Hummel, the 6-8 freshman out of Valparaiso, Indiana, blocked the shot and recovered the rebound. He proceeded to make his 2 free throws at the other end to seal the deal. At the conclusion of the game, the student section charged the court and carried Robbie Hummel off the court on their shoulders.

Boiler up!
For those of you who are going to complain about me talking about something other than Case... I was at the playoff game against Wabash College this year. I am still a Spartan at heart.
The Democrat's plan to take back the white house will fail
The Democrats have followed through with what they thought to the perfect plan. They systematically convinced the entire nation that our booming economy the last few years was terrible. Now our economy is starting to wobble. There is a growing concern about the future of it as a result. The economy is coming front and center in this election. The Democrats have been driving the pessimism with the hope that this would sway the American people to throw the Republican party out of the White House this year. However, there is one Republican candidate that can break up this plan. Mitt Romney's has the economic expertise to turn around our struggling economy and the American people are starting to see that.
Mitt Romney spent most of his life in the private sector as a venture capitalist. A venture capitalist takes over struggling companies and helps to turn them around. Mitt Romney was very successful as a venture capitalist because he was able to cut the wasteful in companies. Mitt Romney and his firm invested in Staples. Because of Mitt Romney's keen eye for the wasteful, Staples turned their fortunes around and now employs over 50,000 employees nationwide. It is now one of the most successful office companies in the country. Mitt Romney and his firm have also turned around Bright Horizons Family Solutions, Brookstone, Domino's Pizza, Sealy, Guitar Center and The Sports Authority.
Mitt Romney's shining moment as a business man came when he was tapped to turn around the Salt Lake City Olympic Games. During the preparations for the games, the project was running grossly over budget. There was corruption among the leading officials on the Salt Lake City Olympic Games that seemed to have doomed the games. Many believed that the games could not be pulled off. Salt Lake City turned to Mitt Romney to turn it all around. He reduced the budget by cutting out the wasteful and and purged the corruption to get the games off without any problems.
Mitt Romney's political life started in the most unlikely of places, the bluest of blue states, Massachusetts. When he came into office, there was a 2.3 billion dollar deficit. For the first time in his life, he was able to apply his business savvy in the political world. When he left office, there was a 700 million dollar surplus while cutting taxes. This was done despite being hindered with a heavily democratic congress.
Michigan is like looking into a crystal ball and seeing what the nation will think this November. The state is already in a recession. Mitt Romney played to his strength during his campaign in Michigan, the economy. His message consisted of two themes. One theme was that he is not a life-long politician. McCain, Clinton, and Obama are all life-long politicians. He is presenting himself as an outsider with business experience who can turn around our economy by bringing a fresh face into Washington. This brings us to his second theme. Mitt Romney has presented his business experience as something that can be used to turn around the corruption and financial disaster that is our federal government. This is a valid claim since he has done this as a venture capitalist as well as governor of Massachusetts. This message resonated with many as he won the primary 39 to 30 percent in a state that went heavily for McCain in 2000. The Democrats have convinced the entire nation that our economy is in shambles. This will bring the economy front and center in the 2008 election. This plays right into Mitt Romney's strength. The Michigan primary shows that his economic message resonates well for those concerned about a recession. I am predicting that the same will be true throughout the nation come November.
Who will run for the GOP in 2008?
Who will run in 2008 for the GOP?
There are quite a few possibilities:
John McCain: While many consider him a front runner, I disagree. I think he is far to liberal to ever get the nomination. He has gone against the conservative agenda way too many times. McCain is one of the misguided Republican Senators that voted for the comprehensive joke of an immigration bill.
Rudy Giuliani: While he did do a lot of great things for New York, he is also far too liberal. He is for abortion which would make it much harder to get him elected.
Mitt Romney: He is often considered a front runner for the nomination. However, it is my opinion that being from Massachusetts will really hurt him in the primary. Like the first two, he has taken liberal stances on many issues. One thing that will really hurt him is the social health care program that he instituted in his state.
George Allen: He is a legitimate contender for the nomination. He has a strong record in family values, abortion, and government spending. His voting record is almost 100% with the conservative agenda. However, he is a senator. Traditionally, senators have had a hard time getting elected. I feel that his voting record in the senate will actually HELP him get elected because it is so staunchly conservative. Unlike many of his fellow misled GOP senators, he was against the awful senate immigration bill.
Senator Brownback: While he has often been considered a conservative’s conservative, he has been showing less political spine as of late. He is one of the many misguided Republicans who voted for the Senate immigration bill. Polls indicate this will be a big issue with the voters, so I believe that vote alone will make a presidential run impossible.
Bill Frist: This senator has the right political ideals to run for president. He has a strong pro-life record. He also has a very strong record on economic issues. While he is low in the polls right now, he could gain momentum as 2008 approaches.
Condi Rice: While she has repeatedly said she does not want to run for the presidency in 2008, many still consider her. She has shown a lot of leadership in her role as secretary of state. If she wanted it, there is no doubt she could get the nomination from the party. However, I question the way she has been handling the Israel-Lebanon conflict. In my opinion, she is legitimizing Hezbollah far too much. She seems to be caving into international pressure to encourage a cease fire. She should be involving Iran and Syria in these talks. She should be encouraging more than harsh words with Iran and Syria.
Newt Gingrich: Newt Gingrich is the dark horse of the presidential class of 2008. He is the best candidate out there. He is starting to rise out of the wood work. He even won a straw poll in Minnesota. Can you imagine Newt Gingrich in a debate? He would destroy whoever he is up against. He has shown through his spectacular service in Congress that he has a political spine. He stands on his principles with conviction that can only be matched by Ronald Reagan. While many question his gruff nature, I believe that it will not be an issue. His confidence in his ideas will ring loudly through America. He is strongly for the privatization of Social Security. This is a major issue with my generation. We want the same deal government workers and teachers get. He is also a throwback to the world of Reaganomics. He is for shrinking the government and shrinking taxes. He also is a very strong pro-life and family values candidate. This will help attract the compassionate conservative base. The most important quality that makes Newt Gingrich presidential material is his natural ability to lead a conservative movement. He showed with the GOP takeover of congress that he can lead a movement. After George Bush, America needs someone with conviction. We need someone who will stick to his conservative principles. That man is Newt Gingrich.
America Needs Newt Gingrich
The United States of American needs Newt Gingrich as president. In an era where Republicans spend and grant amnesty to illegal aliens, a strong voice that is not afraid to stand on CONSERVATIVE principals is needed. America needs someone who will not be swayed by the inherent liberalism in Washington DC. We need a president who will transform the United States into something it has not been since before the social program explosion under FDR. The United States is losing its sovereignty and its capitalist markets. Newt Gingrich can save the nation from its path to socialism.
Newt Gingrich has confidence in his conservative principles. This is very important because he will not be swayed by the liberalism that is infecting the Republican Party. No matter what the polls say, he will stick with his principles. Conservative principles will improve our country. He is a remaining prodigy from the rise of conservatism in America started by Ronald Reagan. He is perfectly suited for the second step in the rising of conservatism.
There is a majority for Republicans in both houses of Congress and a conservative base waiting for a strong leader to lead the charge for conservative legislation. George Bush is not that answer. Newt Gingrich is a proven leader. We can all recall the Republican Contract With America. This was an outlined plan that stated the clear goals of what can be accomplished with a Republican majority. This plan can be revised with modern conservative ideas like social security privatization. Newt Gingrich showed in his original “Contract With America” that he could lead the conservatives to accomplish conservative goals. This is important right now because we have a Republican majority in all branches of the government and somehow we do not have a conservative majority when it comes to voting.
With Newt Gingrich as president, we will see the return to return of the Reagan conservative plan. He would reduce spending in expendable areas of the government. With spending cut, the deficit will disappear and there will be room for more tax cuts. This is necessary for our economy to stay competitive on a global market. We will also see a continued effort to put constitutionalists on the Supreme Court. We will see the privatization of Social Security which will give those of my generation a chance to build up for retirement. This could serve as a step towards to the eventual elimination of the program. We will see continued military support. We will see less government, less taxes, a strong military, more victories in the war on terror, no legislating from the Supreme Court, and a tough stance on immigration.

Newt Gingrich is the 2008 Presidential front runner
Newt Gingrich is one of the most important Republicans in the last 30 years. It was him and Reagan that started the Conservative Movement in America. Now the Republicans are sick and tired of moderate, John McCain Republicans. In a straw poll in Minnesota for the presidential nomination for 2008, Newt was the clear winner. While many criticize his "baggage" as a tough hill to climb, it is my opinion that he would do an excellent job as President. He has something George Bush will never have, a CONSERVATIVE backbone. He will stick to his principles. He is exactly what the Republicans need. He may not get the nomination, but even running as a candidate for the nomination will pull all of the candidates to the right.
SENIOR DEMOCRAT STEPS DOWN FROM HOUSE ETHICS PANEL ON CORRUPTION CHARGES
It's amazing how little coverage this is getting. Let me remind you what happened with Delay. The press was all over it. Here is something that is just as bad if not worse... yet the media refuses to run the story as much as the Delay allegations.
This should be interesting as it pans out. This comes as the democrats still try to push "Culture of Corruption" in the GOP. Give it up... your party has just as much corruption as anyone. I don't recall any GOPers punching any policeman... However... I do recall a Dem doing just that. Am I saying the GOP has done nothing wrong? Of course not... you can see from my recent posts that I am not in full support of the direction of the party. I will admit that there have been some ethical issues in the GOP. However, there have been even more in the Dem party. Here's the 3 that I can list off the top of my head.
1) Many top democratic congressmen listed by Jack Abramoff.
2) Congresswoman punched a police offer.
3) Senior Democrat has to exit position over corruption charges.
The Republican Party is losing focus
I am concerned as a Republican. What is going on with my party? I am starting to lean more and more towards libertarian just because they seem to be the only party that is fiscally responsible. They seem to be the only party that wants to shrink government. I am sick and tired of the Republicans trying to appease the left. WE HAVE A MAJORITY! We can dictate what the government does. What concerns me is that what is going on now is really what the republicans want to do. It is against everything that the republican party has promised in the past. I am starting to see the Republican Party as Dems with morals. That is not acceptable. I see this as an pivotal period in American history. I see two scenarios:
1) The Republicans nominate a fiscally conservative president.
2) They keep on doing what they're doing and lose the election in 2008. This could open the door for the libertarian party. If they make their platform a less radical... they could have a shot against another Bush conservative. If nothing else, We could see a Ross Perot effect from a third party.
The Republican base is getting sick and tired of fake Republicans. If they don't shape up... this will greatly effect them in the upcoming election.
Hillary says: BILL! YOU LISTEN TO ME!
It's official... Bill Clinton can no longer have an opinion for himself. He must now take the exact same opinion as Hillary. Hey... at least someone will finally agree with her.
Condi 3rd most popular politician
While the biggest part of this story was that Giuliani was the most popular, I think the biggest news is that Condi is the 3rd most popular behind McCain. I think that this is big news for the republican party. Condi's popularity could play a huge role in the 2008 election. FINALLY the country is realizing how good of a job she is doing at her job. They are realizing how strong of a leader she is.
Note: Hillary is only the 8th most popular.
CONDI IN 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hillary says GENDER is why people don't like her... WRONG!
According to the AP, Hillary says:
Responding to Republican claims that she may be too angry to win national office, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton told an audience Monday to wear such criticism as "a badge of honor" and suggested that gender played a role in the attacks.
She needs to realize that conservatives don't like her because she is a left wing extremist and a wishy-washy quack. No one likes a politician who is wishy-washy and completely opposite of their views.
Can this woman beat Hillary?
The Senate races are starting to heat up. It is possible that this woman, could dethrone the infamous Hillary Clinton.
Kathleen Troia McFarland, 54, a protégée of Henry A. Kissinger who has not been in public service since working as a Pentagon spokeswoman under President Ronald Reagan. Yet Ms. McFarland, known as K. T., is pretty green: She has been a stay-at-home mother since 1985, and was drawn to the Senate race only because she already believed she was going to lose her bid for a Congressional seat on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Even if she doesn't win, she could greatly weaken Hillary in the event she runs for president.
Report: Dick Cheney retiring after midterm elections
It has been reported that Dick Cheney will be retiring. I don't know how much truth there is to that; however, if true, this could cement the republican victory in 2008. The dems are still standing for the opposite of what Bush does...that's not going to help their cause. Having our 2008 canidate get some name recognition as vice president would greatly help his or her chances in 2008. Unless the democrats solidfy their platform, we'll be looking at 4 more years of republicans in power.

Only 16% firm on Hillary for President. 2 words: THANK GOD!
THANK GOD!!!!

CNNGALLUP SHOCK POLL: ONLY 16% FIRM ON HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT Wed Jan 25 2006 10:50:26 ETMost voters now say there's no way they'd vote for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton if she runs for president in 2008 - while just 16 percent are firmly in her camp, a stunning new poll shows.
CNNGALLUP found that 51 percent say they definitely won't vote for Clinton (D-N.Y.) in 2008, another 32 percent might consider it, and only 16 percent vow to back her. That means committed anti-Hillary voters outnumber pro-Hillary voters by 3-1. The poll suggests she can forget about crossover votes - 90 percent of Republicans and 75 percent of conservatives say there's no way they'd back her.
Meanwhile, 46% said they would oppose Secretary of State Rice if she ran for President - a step Rice has repeatedly said she won't take.
More trouble for the dems voting base
One demographic that has traditionally been democrat is the African Americans. In Orlando, FL, we are starting to see signs of something new. Perhaps the dems' lack of direction is causing more minds to change. Perhaps another contributing factor to this shift is the fact that the secretary of state and one of the supreme court justices, two of the nation's most powerful positions, are both African American and Republican.
NAACP chief makes switch to GOP
Published November 17, 2005
For decades, Republicans have struggled to reach out to black Americans. But now in Orange County, the GOP has to reach no further than the NAACP.
As of this week, Derrick Wallace, head of Orange County's NAACP, has switched parties -- to become a Republican.
"I've thought about this for two years," Wallace said Tuesday afternoon, just a few hours after returning from the elections office. "This is not a decision I made yesterday."
It is, however, a decision that rang out like a shot among political circles.
Republican Party leader Lew Oliver described himself as "extraordinarily pleased," while Democratic leader Tim Shea said he was disappointed.
Wallace, a construction-company exec, was candid about the fact that his business life was a big part of his decision to change.
"It's purely a business decision. Ninety percent of those I do business with are Republicans," he said. "Opportunities that have come to my firm have been brought by Republicans."
To that, Shea responded: "I'm a little confused. Are we talking about the National Association for the Advancement of Construction Professionals -- or Colored People?"
Wallace elaborated that his "business" line of thought also referred to the NAACP. Behind many of the power desks in this town sit Republicans. And he said he wants his organization to be part of that structure. Just as importantly, he said, he didn't want people to immediately brand -- or dismiss -- NAACP concerns as synonymous with those of liberal Democrats. "I want this branch to be respected," he said.
Oliver said they already are, noting that all of the members of the GOP executive board joined the NAACP a few years back to show that they were serious about outreach. "We have taken pains to do our very best to reach out," he said.
But Shea and other Democrats have long maintained that Republican talk about inclusion is little more than that: talk. They cite GOP policy after policy -- on everything from voting rights to health care -- that disproportionately negatively affects blacks.
Wallace's party switch may not be a complete surprise. After his own long-shot bid for mayor of Orlando fell short in 2003, he twice supported Republican candidates for the post.
Still, Wallace's new GOP standing is historic for the NAACP -- an organization that is vastly Democratic.
"I don't think my doing this hurts anything. In fact, I think it helps," Wallace said. "But we'll hear what others have to say. I'm sure I will."
The State of the Republican Party is Strong!
The Miers nomination has transformed the Republican Party. It has not weakened the party as many liberal media sources would love lead you to believe. What this has done is wake up the Republican Party. This has riled and united the conservative base. We must utilize this united base by returning to a traditional conservative platform. Fiscal responsibility, small government, states rights, second amendment rights, social security privatization, lower taxes, and other conservative values must be returned to the agenda as the primary focus in the upcoming elections. The revamp of the conservative agenda is crucial in the upcoming congressional elections in 2006 as well as the presidential elections in 2008.
The return to a traditional Republican agenda is necessary in order for the Republican Party to gain more seats in the House and Senate in 2006 and 2008. This past term the conservatives in Congress have drifted away from their conservative ideals. There was the highway bill, the Kennedy drafted education bill, and other pork barrel spending bills. It is time to stop trying to appease the Democrats. The Republicans have a majority in the House and the Senate. The agenda that has allowed the Republicans to achieve this majority must be furthered.
FEMA is being criticized as not being the save the world organization that the liberals want it to be. It is time for Congress to define that the state and local governments are primarily responsible for hurricane relief. We cannot rely on our federal government to show up at every hurricane landfall. This would result in ridiculous government spending. It just costs way too much to move an organization like FEMA.
The Republicans must also cut other spending. Running a government in deficit is not what the Republican Party stands for. It is time to trim the social programs that have been unsuccessful in improving poverty rates in our country. They must cut taxes to allow the Republican solution to poverty, economic growth. These straight forward ideals must become more than just words and talking points. It is time for congress to take action. If they do not, their jobs may be in jeopardy.
In order to advance the traditional conservative Republican agenda, the Republican Party must choose the right presidential nominee in 2008. As much as CNN wants it, John McCain is not the right guy. He is too moderate. We need someone who is a traditional conservative Republican. We need to have someone who is vibrant, straight shooting, and not afraid to say he or she has a conservative agenda. We need a nominee who will preach a fiscally conservative agenda that involves cutting social programs. This will anger the left, but who cares? The left will vote democrat anyways. We don’t care what they think. We are not trying to please the Left. We are trying to embody the ideals of those who are advancing the conservative movement.
It is time that the Republicans take a stance. The Republicans have worked for years to build this base. It is now time to shift from being the minority voice to being the majority voice. The majority must set the tone of the federal agenda. The Miers nomination has riled the Republican base and brought fourth what the Republican Party platform is. A revert to the traditional conservative ideals is a must. It is time to stop trying to please the left. It is time to advance the agenda that the majority of America supports.
