Conservative Republicans strong stance on amnesty appears to be paying off
"I think it is easy to say the first priority of the House is to secure the borders," added Rep. Roy Blunt, the GOP whip.
"There will be no path to citizenship," said one lawmaker who attended a strategy session in Hastert's office.
[a poll said] when asked if they favor a comprehensive approach or a security-first bill that "under no circumstances" allows for citizenship, 43 percent said they prefer focusing on the border, and 33 percent picked overall reform.
Conservative Republicans are standing strong against the pressure to spit on the laws of our land by passing the Senate immigration bill. Now leaders are saying that it is unlikely that the comprehensive bill that throws our sovereignty and our laws right out the window is not likely to make it through conference. It looks like the conservatives who stood strong against the liberals (both Democrats and Republicans) are making a difference. In order to ensure conservative victory on this issue, I encourage you to write to your senator or your representative via email. It is necessary for the good of our country that the amnesty provisions are dropped. We are winning. Keep up the strong opposition.

Senator Reid claims making immigrants learn english is "racist"
According to good old Democrat Senator Reid… making the immigrants learn English is racist. It saves companies money. It will lessen the need for translators. We are not even saying that everyone has to speak English all the time. We are saying they need to learn the language as it is part of our culture. No one is complaining that we make them learn a little bit about our country. No one should have any problem with immigrants simply learning another element of our culture.
Bush standing up for Republican principles on immigration
President Bush is going back to his guns as a Republican. This new immigration reform is an excellent thing for America. It is a realistic plan that both sides of the aisle should be able to embrace. You will see the democrats pretend like they disagree with it anyways… that is their party platform. It has been shown in polls that 70% of the country agrees with his plan.
Now what is his plan?
1) Secure Borders: He will temporarily send troops to the border of Mexico while new technologically advanced fences are built. This will help us control the drug flow and prevent terrorists from gaining easy access to our country. This will also encourage people in Mexico to use legal means of entering our country.
By the end of 2008, we will increase the border patrols by 6,000.
We will get rid of the “catch and release program.” This will discourage illegal immigration.
2) Handle the people who want to simply work here and not become a citizen.
This will be done by creating a guest worker program. This will discourage people from entering the united states illegally. This will allow them to contribute to our economy legally.
3) Penalize those who hire illegals: ID card with biometrics to track workers.
4) Dealing with immigrants here illegally:
NO AMNESTY!!! Amnesty will set a precedence that will undermine the laws we are trying to enforce.
Penalties and back of the citizenship lines as long as they pass the national security check… this is a good approach because deporting 12 million people is not realistic.
5) Keep our nation’s immigration roots in tact.
6) MAKE THEM LEARN ENGLISH!
English is the language of our country. If they want to live here… they can learn our language and learn to respect our flag.
People may argue that we shouldn't make our national guard do this... We're paying for their college. They have agreed to be in the military. The military is not a free ride. You have to work for your money when the nation needs you. Well... the nation needs the national guard to keep our borders secure.
There is NO REASON for the democrats to oppose this bill. This is a friendly to both parties bill that should be easily passed. If they come out in opposition to this, it will be even more clear that their platform is “Whatever Bush does is wrong…. No matter how right it is”
Immigration debate is ridiculous.
The immigration debate IS ridiculous. There is a reason why they are called ILLEGAL immigrants... because it's against our laws to be here. There ARE ways for people to immigrate... there are processes for that. I am perfectly ok for people coming to be citizens of our country; they just have to go through the proper channels. There is NO reason for our borders to be open. Citizenship to the US is a privilege to foreigners... not a right. The moment we give amnesty once, we're going to slide down that slippery slope. We're going to have to grant citizenship people who come in illegally now.
How is it fair to the people who followed the proper procedures?
Let's look at why they go through a process for citizenship:
1) National security... remember that whole 911 thing?
2) Check for communicable diseases
3) Check for criminal record
4) Document who is here
George Bush stands up for our national anthem
George Bush has public ally said that the national anthem should be in English (article).
One of the things that's very important is, when we debate this issue, that we not lose our national soul," the president exclaimed. "One of the great things about America is that we've been able to take people from all walks of life bound as one nation under God. And that's the challenge ahead of us.
