Glue Is Important Too

Knowing your role is the glue that holds the team pyramid together.

I really enjoyed Professor Powley’s analogy of a team being like a pyramid. As I was reflecting on today’s lecture earlier today, I thought to myself that the ability of each team member to know their role is like the glue that holds the pyramid together. What I think is fascinating is that one of the groups has decided not to have a set “team leader” and to spread the responsibility among the team members evenly, as was said by one of them in class. This is a prime example of someone, particularly the person who was chosen to be the group leader by the class instructors, knowing their role and acting on it; in this case, the group leader that was chosen clearly recognized a unique situation that he or she was placed in and took the initiative as a leader to set the standard in the team of thoughtfulness and fairness. I think that as a result of this person’s keen ability, the team will bond and find success faster than those teams that don’t have members with their heads in the right place. I think that anyone who has the ability to recognize their role in a team or in a situation and has the courage to act accordingly is a leader and someone I would eagerly work alongside any day.
