The dog days of August....plus a free movie screening of "Rocket Science"

The dog days of August are here in full swing this weekend. For all you dog lovers out there, there are plenty of events for you AND your pet this weekend. See the August 15th entry below for all of the other events this weekend, including the Warehouse District Street Festival and the Feast of the Assumption.

For the dogs...
Saturday only
Pet fair, dog walk, and fundraiser for Dick Goddard's Best Friends Fund
This event will be held at the trailhead of the scenic Cuyahoga Valley in Valley View at the Thornburg Station at Canal and Rockside Roads. Donations are $5. Pooch Party
Avon Lake hosts a party for dog owners and their dogs, as well as a parade from noon-2 PM on Saturday 8/18 at Belle Road Park in order to raise money for animal charities. Belle Road Park is located at the intersection of Belle Road and Armour Road in Avon Lake.

Saturday and Sunday
Dog Days Celebration in University Circle
Come to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and see exotic breeds, demonstrations of working dogs and therapy dogs, participate in crafts and pet-enrichment and more. Saturday 10 AM-4 PM, Sunday 12-4 PM. Free with regular admission of $9 adults, $7 students, and $6 children. Call 216-231-4600. Click here for details.

14th Annual Canine Fun Days and Greyhound Reunion
This event at the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Grounds features dachshund and basset-hound racing, a dog show, agility trials, group frolics, a Sunday blessing of the animals, and more than 20 rescue groups with dogs up for adoption if you're interested in having a new best friend around. Sat. 8/18 10:30-5 PM, Sun. 8/19 9:30 AM-5 PM. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children, and FREE for dogs. Call 1-800-269-1148 for information. Doggie Dip
The Studio salon in Ohio City is holding its first Annual Doggie Dip, where you can get your dog groomed or washed for just a few dollars.
The event will be from noon-6 PM this Sunday. The Studio is located at 1887 Fulton Road in Ohio City just across the street from Johnny Mango's. Click here for their website. Call 216-281-1887 for pricing for the Doggie Dip.

Also, pick up a pass on Sunday at the Doggie Dip to see the "Rocket Science" free preview while supplies last. The showing is on Tuesday August 21 at 7:30 at Cedar-Lee. No purchase necessary. The pass is good for 2 people, but you must arrive early in order to guarantee seating. Bring a donation of a new dog-safe toy, blanket, or bed to win a "Rocket Science"/The Studio salon prize pack. "Rocket Science" opens nationwide August 24. The movie won best direction at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and Best Independent Film at the Philadelphia Film Festival.
