Events continue to run past Labor Day and into fall...plus a free screening of "The Brave One" starring Jodie Foster

Just because summer is winding down, doesn't mean there isn't still a lot going on in the city. Continue to check the blog for more events, new restaurants, and free advance free preview screenings. Thanks to Sid Star for the submission of this weekend's "Brand Upon the Brain!" event.

For those new to the blog, I also have an email address (createcleveland@case.edu) where people can email suggestions or comments about the blog, in addition to the regular comments link.

Author's note: Zocalo had been slated to open September 6, but has already been open for 2 weeks for a trial run. The grand opening will be this Thursday, September 6, however. Another unique point about the restaurant, is that you can actually walk around through the kitchen while chefs prepare your food.

Friday
Brand Upon the Brain!

Director Guy Maddin's (THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD) latest feature film is a retro-silent thriller that excavates the longings and tragedies of childhood. In which the shocking truth is finally revealed about young Guy Maddinʼs childhood on a remote island, under the watchful eye of a mother hell-bent on restoring her youth and a diabolical scientist-father. Things are not quite right at the mom-and-pop orphanage they surreptitiously operate within the dank confines of the family lighthouse... but the mysteries of the lighthouse will be divined by the teen detective duo The Light Bulb Kids.
Don't miss the film critics are calling "astonishing" (Roger Ebert), "majestically strange" (Time Out Chicago) and "one of the 10 best films of the year" (The New York Times). Equal parts childhood reminiscence, Expressionist horror movie and gender-bending teen detective serial, BRAND! is an outrageous, hypnotic cinematic experience.. BRAND! earned unqualified raves during 9 months on the festival circuit, including Festival-best mentions at the 2006 Toronto Film Festival, 2006 New York Film Festival, and the 2007 Berlinale.
