The Sonnet -- reviewed

I came upon this band through a video on youtube posted by asqueen from chinesepod, did some searching and found them at 14sh.com.

I listened to a lot of garage style music in the mid to late 90's, and The Sonnet is very reminiscent of those bands. My favorite was Sonic Youth, dirty [Dirty indeed]. I've recently [5 years] been turned on to sleater-kinney. www.sleater-kinney.com

Now, in fairness, I truely can't place this band on the same level. The writing just isn't there. I'd like to hear more vocals, better guitar solos, more lyrical bass lines... Should I pick on the drummer too? OK, I'd like to hear some innovative lines, fills, sounds [mixed meter would be great]. If I could hear what they were actually singing, I might be able to comment on the lyrics [tho many bands, including sonic youth have had a similar issue].

They are original. I can't take that away from them. They are enjoyable. They are not polished. Maybe that is my biggest complaint, they sound like a great college band. Woodshed, make everything sound like it's intentional, not accidental, and I would buy song after song. Or, keep it as is and I'll download what they give me for free.
