The Collapse of Free Speech in the US

Well, as if you hadn't already guessed, your Constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech has been thwarted once again.

Have a look at this article over at Time Magazine to see how our Chief Executive (President) and his underlings are mucking it up again.

You have a seat on an international organization and represent the United States in any way? Only if you live and breathe the party line.

Sunni leaders continue to baffle

If anybody can possibly explain this to me in a rational way I would be most grateful. Sunni leaders in Iraq are, and have been strongly opposed to the presence of foreign troops on Iraq soil. They also encouraged the wholesale boycott of the recent election process in Iraq. Now, (BBC News story) they protest that the election results are illegitimate because so few Sunni participated, despite opposing proclamations by non-U.S. representatives from the United Nations and other international bodies.

Bush & Rice - a la Abbot & Costello

George Bush: "Condoleeza! Nice to see you. What's happening?" Condoleeza Rice: "Sir, I have the report here about the new leader of China."
George: "Great. Lay it on me."
Condoleeza: "'Hu' is the new leader of China."
George: "That's what I want to know."
Condoleeza: "That's what I'm telling you."
George: "That's what I'm asking you. Who is the new leader of China?"
Condoleeza: "Yes."
George: "I mean the fellow's name."
Condoleeza: "Hu."
George: "The guy in China."
Condoleeza: "Hu."
George: "The new leader of China."
Condoleeza: "Hu."
George: "The Chinaman!"
Condoleeza: "Hu is leading China."
George: "Now whaddya' asking me for?"
Condoleeza: "I'm telling you Hu is leading China."
George: "Well, I'm asking you. Who is leading China?"
Condoleeza: "That's the man's name."
George: "That's whose name?"
Condoleeza: "Yes."
George: "Will you or will you not tell me the name of the new leader of China?"
Condoleeza: "Yes, sir."
George: "Yassir? Yassir Arafat is in China? I thought he was in the Middle East."
Condoleeza: "That's correct."
George: "Then who is in China?"
Condoleeza: "Yes, sir."
George: "Yassir is in China?"
Condoleeza: "No, sir."
George: "Then who is?"
Condoleeza: "Yes, sir."
George: "Yassir?"
Condoleeza: "No, sir."
George: "Look, Condoleeza. I need to know the name of the new leader of China. Get me the Secretary General of the U.N. on the phone."
Condoleeza: "Kofi?"
George: "No, thanks."
Condoleeza: "You want Kofi?"
George: "No."
Condoleeza: "You don't want Kofi."
George: "No. But now that you mention it, I could use a glass of milk. And then get me the U.N."
Condoleeza: "Yes, sir."
George: "Not Yassir! The guy at the U.N."
Condoleeza: "Kofi?"
George: "Milk! Will you please make the call?"
Condoleeza: "And call who?"
George: "Who is the guy at the U.N?"
Condoleeza: "Hu is the guy in China."
George: "Will you stay out of China?!"
Condoleeza: "Yes, sir."
George: "And stay out of the Middle East! Just get me the guy at the U.N."
Condoleeza: "Kofi."
George: "All right! With cream and two sugars. Now get on the phone."

Condoleezza Rice is Such an Idiot!

During confirmation hearings before the Senate the current nominee for Secretary of State actually said she doesn't believe that members of terrorist groups like al Qaeda deserve the protections of the Geneva Conventions on the Treatment of Prisoners. I don't think I've ever heard a more foolish public comment by anybody at any level of government in my 43+ years on this rock.

Dr. Rice, you must get it into that mass of pudding between your ears that adherence to the Geneva Conventions have nothing at all to do with whether the prisoner in question 'deserves' any sort of treatment. They have nothing to do with what sort of person the prisoner may or may not be, at all. They have absolutely everything to do with what they say about us, and how we expect our sons and daughters to be treated.

To exempt any group from these basic protections exposes all of us to the very treatment they are designed to prevent. The fact that an enemy faction subscribes to methods of terror and torture is not adequate justification to suspend this protection for those persons in our custody, regardles of their affiliation or intents.
