Holy Toledo!

So someone alerted me to this New Yorker article about Blackwell and the role of the religious right in the upcoming Gubernatorial election. It's obviously very well written and points out just how strong of a race Blackwell could present come November 2nd.

Here's just a quote that stuck out for me from the article.

He [Russell Johnson of Fairfield Christian Church]also said that Roe v. Wade had led to the crisis in Social Security: “Abortion is also an economic issue. It has killed millions of American consumers.”

With whatever truth that correlation shows, when I told that passage to a friend they also mentioned the frightening connection of global temperature and pirates. Enjoy those bits of food for thought

Pick up a copy of the latest New Yorker (dated 7/31/06) or read the article online

I may have to disagree about just how strong of a race Blackwell can make of this. Considering everything I've seen to this point about the reace and barring anything unforseen, I think Strickland has a near-lock on the race. If this were 2004, I would say Blackwell has a better chance. Like the article noted, Blackwell isn't your typical Ohio Republican. He's much more conservative and in a year where moderate Republicans would have a hard time, Blackwell is stuck. As an answer to Ohio many problems, from scandal to economic stagnation, I really don't think people are going to say, "I think we need a more Republican Republican." The right-wing social conservatives are demoralized by national conditions and I don't even think Blackwell or the RNC can turn this one around with their tricks, turn-out efforts, or wedge issues.

I agree with David about Blackwell's chances. Polling has consistently been in favor of Strickland and I don't see that changing unless something catastrophic happens in the near future.

I feel the Dems could better use their resources helping with the Brown campaign to unseat DeWine.
