Ney won't run for re-election

This just in: Bob Ney is stepping out of the House Race and no longer running for re-election.

His Ney stated that: "After much consideration and thought I have decided today to no longer seek re-election in Ohio’s 18th Congressional District. I am extremely proud of my 25 years serving the people of Ohio. We’ve accomplished many things to make this state better and I will always be grateful for the trust my constituents put in me. Ultimately this decision came down to my family. I must think of them first, and I can no longer put them through this ordeal.”

Ney has asked OH State Sen. Joy Padgett to run in his place.

I feel both relieved and slightly apprehensive when I read this news.

I am relieved that such a corrupt congressman won't return to power, however I am a little more concerned for Democrat Zack Space's chances to win this congressional seat. Space was up in the polls versus Nay and held a strong fundraising edge over him. I was fairly confident he could defeat Nay and all of his legal troubles. Now Space must revector his campaign to target an individual who at first glace has a fairly strong resume.

"In Padgett, 59, the GOP gets a candidate with a resume that includes about a decade as a state lawmaker and a six-year stint as director of the Gov.'s Office of Appalachia.

Padgett ran for lieutenant governor this spring on a ticket with Attorney General Jim Petro, who lost to Secretary of State Ken Blackwell in the Republican primary for governor."

It should be interesting to see how this congressional race plays out. Yet another one to monitor on election day!
