Ohio Young Democrats Leadership Positions Open

A Message from OYD President Antone White

Calling all Young Democrats! I am happy to announce that OYD is seeking to fill several vacant leadership positions - and we want you! This is a great opportunity for you to utilize your talents and skills to take a more active role in the direction of our organization. Without you, OYD doesn't exist. With increased involvement, we can ensure that we maintain a strong and effective organization that works to elect Democrats at all levels.

Interested individuals should submit a brief resume by e-mail to OYD President Antone White at white@ohioyd.org. All positions are non-compensated.* Additional questions regarding these positions can also be directed to Antone at the email listed above.

We are currently seeking candidates for the following positions:

First Vice President
The First Vice President shall chair the OYD Campaign Committee, oversee the young candidate recruitment program, perform the duties and responsibilities of the President in his or her absence or incapacity, and shall perform other duties as assigned by the President or By-laws of this organization.
- Interested individuals should have experience with working on state and/or local campaigns.

Regional Field Coordinators: Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast, and Central Ohio
Help OYD become more engaged locally by serving as a regional field coordinator. Duties include but are not limited to: execution of the 2006 OYD Youth Coordinated Campaign Plan, assisting with local chapter creation and existing chapter development, attending chapter meetings in your region, and recruiting local members to serve on OYD committees.
- We are looking for 3-5 coordinators per region. *All coordinators will be reimbursed for mileage within their region.

Technology Committee
Do you have expertise in creating Web sites and using Internet tools? Join this committee to help re-develop the OYD Web site, provide technology advice to local chapters, and develop a plan to utilize all available technologies to create more effective communications among our chapters.

Former President Clinton Coming to Cleveland

July 19th's Plain Dealer is reporting that Former President Bill Clinton is coming to Cleveland on AUgust 6th to appear at the annual meeting of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

For those of you who don't know, Bill Clinton's mother was a certified registered nurse anesthetist.

Any Nursing majors out there who'd like to sneak us in?

Campaign for a New Ohio Lakewood Event

For those of you unfamiliar with the Campaign for a New Ohio, they're basically a conglomeration of all the amazing NE Ohio volunteers who are working at the grassroots level to help out on various state-wide races. All of this work is in hopes of turning around the governments'negative path.

Anyways, the CNO is hosting a rally with some important Ohio Democrats in Lakewood. While this is a bit of a late notice, if you're interested in attending here's all the information you need. Be sure to take lots of pictures, meet new friends, and find more way to get involved!

Chris Redfern is a member of the Ohio House, and was recently elected chair of the Ohio Democratic Party. During his brief tenure, he has focused on building an 88-county party that competes statewide, and has renewed the party's commitment to grassroots activism. Prior to his election to the Ohio House, he served as commissioner of Ottawa county, the youngest to serve in the state of Ohio. Chris will provide an update on his vision for the party, an update on progress in the current election cycle, and in particular will encourage members of the Campaign for a New Ohio to redouble their efforts in the effort to turn around Ohio.

Julian Rogers is leading the coordinated campaign for Cuyahoga County, is a founder and director of Blue 88, a political action committee focused on revitalizing the Ohio Democratic party, and is a veteran activist who has served on numerous campaigns. The coordinated campaign is is promoting the statewide democratic candidates, namely Ted Strickland/Lee Fisher (Governor), Sherrod Brown (U.S. Senate), Marc Dann (Attorney General), Jennifer Bruner (Secretary of State), Barbara Sykes (Auditor), Richard Cordray (Auditor), Ben Espy and William O'Neill (Supreme Court).


Jane Buder Shapiro, PhD is head of Ohioans for Democratic Values, a board member of Campaign for a New Ohio, a practicing psychologist, and an adjunct professior at CWRU. In her political life, she studies and practices the impact of linguistics and communication in voter persuasion. She is the creator of the Voter Action Initiative, an program to empower activists in precinct-level, door-to-door activism. Volunteers will receive resource material, walk lists, and other tools to enhance the impact of this vital political activity. Resource kits will be available at the meeting..
