Blog Rendering Problem

I don't know why, but there seems to be some sort of problem rendering my mainstream for Super Luminous Velocity. The last post i made in the nerds section is being rendered three times on a page where it belongs only once. I have not experienced anything like this before, and cannot figure out why it is happening now. It is clearly not present in the code for this page. I have emailed the blogmaster Jeremy Smith (Blog WIKI) with the problem, but have recieved no response whatsoever. This is troublesome to me because I would really like to get it under control, and it doesn't seem to be a problem caused on my side. Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?

Additionally, I often get a trackback error when i publish any post, even when it has no trackback urls.

Variable Hedgelet Calculator Live

My first ever piece of "corporate software" has gone live on the Hedgestreet site. It's an interactive flash calculator to figure out the loss or gain for any given investment on the chosen commodity. I'd love to link directly but the site is heavy on javascript so i can't.

Here's how to find it:

Go to the Hedgestreet Hedgelet Page
Select a Market (Economy or Energy etc.)
Select a comodity (Whatever pops out beneath the market choice)
Select any Variable Hedgelet.

It will appear next to the graphs and information.

Be sure to slide the yellow arrows to see the super intuitive color shifting scheme. (redder means more money loss, greener means more money gain, yellower means more neutral. You gotta see it it's pretty sweet.)

Blogs Will Not Fade Away

From The Future of RSS is Not in Blogs

Like the Internet when it first started, blogs were emboldened by the "cool factor". As the novelty of being new and cool wears off, Internet webmasters and bloggers alike are realizing that maintaining a website or blog is time-consuming. "Coolness" often wears off if a channel is not monetized. With the ease of blogging and the array of blogs available, only a handful will be able to sustain fresh, constant, unique content and generate any sort of reasonable or significant revenue. As a result, blogs as we know them today will fade into the background, with many blogs being abandoned.

While the "cool factor" may be fading away for some people, for many millions it still remains. There is no way, save net safety reasons that may arise in the future, that 16 year old girls and emo kids will stop posting journals online for others to view and interact with their tender pubescent EMOtions.

There is no way that the massively increasing ammount of nerds geeks and dorks will return to the dark days where they felt alone as persecuted weaklings (as some do) in a land of "cool kids" grown up.

In this day and age he who rules the net rules the world, and blogs are a great tool with which to rule. Blogging is proving to be better for groups seaking to communicate then usegroups because they don't require you to join a group, there's no hassle to post anywhere. Bloggers are even binding together to help fight crimes by digging up info on suspects (like the muredere in oregon) and that is quite amazing for a bunch of people who have never met.

I think it is obvious that data feeds have far greater power in them then blogs, but that doesn't mean that blogs won't retain any of that power. I certainly see a bright future for my blog, as a means of communicating and broadening my web presence, tying it all together into one usefull and easy to maintain information point.

Of course many blogs will be abandoned, but I predict not as many as will be created in the near future as the fire continues catch

Visit from someone Awesome

Laura will be here in a matter of hours. I am ridiculously, as in really really, excited. I have been listening to a mix i made this morning entitled "Laura is Flying out to see me". Said mix consists of songs with fly or high in the name (Lenny Kravitz's Fly Away, Jackie Wilson's Higher and Higher etc) and Europe's Final Countdown because that is what today is, the final countdown.

Cross Browser Compatibility

At last i have had the few minutes of free time at my disposal to force cross browswer compatibility for the rounded corners look on SLV (that stands for super luminous velocity if you missed the memmo). What do you guys think of the look of this blog anyway? It is in a semi-constant state of flux so your comments will deffinately be taken into account. Honestly, any comments on the look and feel? How about the colors? (orange is my favorite color, hence its unusual prevalence in my design)

Tag Cloud for Planet Case

The other day i discovered a new kind of free feed service called Tag Cloud. The service takes any number of feeds and finds commonalities and displays them in a 'cloud' which is a block of links text-sized in order of importance or interrelation or something like that, whatever it is, its done by the yahoo content analysis api. Anyway, i took the liberty of setting up a Planet Case Tag Cloud, you can check it out here.

For some reason, the cloud did not update dynamically with the rss feed alone, it needed to have the atom feed added to the list to create a decent sized cloud. Any ideas why?

By changing the number at the end of the url, you can set the quantity of tags displayed from 1-250.

I AM NUMBER 1!

A great moment in my life has come at last. Since my entry into the case wiki system, i have become the number 1 "eric neuman" on google. I have 2 words for all you other eric neuman's out there. Booh Yah.

heads up, the future is now!

Ever see back to the future? Marty’s kids wear goggle displays just like this one ALL the time in the house. I was gonna try and rig one up for my PPC, but I guess somone is already mass marketing them, so why bother?

MicroOptical.jpg

I keep trying to explain to people that we really do live in the future, (see the dawn of Corporate Space Cowboys) but no one seems to believe me.

Lets run down the list: tiny cheap fast as hell computers, toyota partner robots, the international space station, fusion power plants, pop-tarts, and with corporate space travel is on its way, I'm surprised so few people see it. It's as if society is wearing blinders all the time. One of the things that I like about case is that I can say "I'm eliminating paper from my life by april" and not everyone thinks I'm out of my mind.

Browser Preference

Until i have tiome to revamp the CSS code that drives this site, please excuse the extruded blocks in IE in the photo sidebar. Besides you really should get Firefox.

Site Best Viewed with Firefox.

Beardless Again

It took a week, but i worked up the corage to shave off my beard. Well, phase 1 at least. I am down to just the goatee, which will come off next. I find that it is easier for me and for those who see me, to make the switch in phases. See posted images in my Flickr PhotoStream.

the right Tablet PC?

One of the perks of having a real job is having some real money. I am trying to use my money wisely, and as such there are only 2 things i8 am buying this summer an mp3 player (check) and a laptop. I have decided that a Tablet PC is the way to go for me. I aim to eliminate paper from my life entirely by the time i turn 20 in april. This is no meager task but i think that by doing this i will increase my efficiency greatly, mostly because i won't lose as much stuff, and i will be super cool from all my nerdyness.

I am currently considering the IBM X41 ThinkPad. It is pretty awesome. In fact it features an embedded fingerprint scanner that i read about in popular science last year. Very snappy. The only thing it really lacks is an optical drive, but that saves on weight and battery life.

I have never owned a laptop.

to wiki or to blog, that is the question

With the advent of the case wiki system, i find myself in a bit of a quandry. When i wish to link to someone else in the case-sphere (maybe casephere?) do i link to their blog or their identity page in the wiki?

For example, Jeremy smith Jeremy_Smith or Jeremy Smith

I think that it is probably proper to link to the blog of a person simply because that is more likely to foster more commentation and activity in the blogsphere, but the wiki would probably provide more information on who the person in question actually is.

Another possibility is somthing more along the lines of Jeremy Smith (Blog WIKI) which i think i will test out for ight now.

so pumped

In less than 2 weeks my girlfriend laura is coming to visit me and i am ridiculously excited. I have taken off from work, even made some plans. The countdown is on. Also, laura just sent me some photos from her recent beach house experience, these are posted in my Flickr Photostream.

caution construction zone

I would like to appologize for the broken status of certain portions of this site. It is under construction, but rather slowly because i am a very busy guy right now, betwixt work and calculus i have little time for blogging. (This means that betwixt work calculus and blogging, i have very litle time for sleep.)

iRiver H10 and BestBuy sucks

Two weeks ago I went to Best Buy to pick up an iRiver H10 only to discover that the person i had spoken to before had misinformed me )instead of a whole shipment he apparentyly no shipment and none in any warehouse anywhere). While there i also heard someone trying to trade in a PSP covered by a PRP (product replacement plan) the type of plan that is supposed to cover ANY type of damage to the player short of user intentional mutilation. The customer services employee would not exchange the device but instead refunded his PRP. He should sue. I ordered my mp3 player online instead because the only reason for going to BestBuy was so I could get a PRP.

Anyway, the player is pretty good, you can see its features here. If anyone knows how to put Linux on it tell me, because i'd love to rewrite the slightly underutilized UI.
