America Rules (Pizza Vending Machine)

As a college student I eat lots of pizza. Americans eat approximately 100 acres of pizza EACH DAY, or about 350 slices per second. That being said, this is what I want for Chanukah:distrib.jpg

That's right, fresh baked pizza from an automatic food selling machine. Why aren't these on every corner!? They might not be a hit in little Italy, but everywhere else they would make a killing.

I Hate Case

In yet another dick move, apparently sending no e-mail is the method employed by the math department to notify students who did not pass their placement exams. So, instead of giving me the chance to fix it BEFORE I satarted classes, I have to adjust my schedule now, 3 days in. Seriously, who decided that that was a good idea? Doesn't anyone involved in the administration of this school posess the ability to consider the students! Case is a SCHOOL isn't it?

I failed. Looks like summer school for me.

GoogleTalk Beta

Google has released yet another new product this year (man are they flying), this one called googleTalk. That's right, google has created their own instant messenger client with built in voice "call" support (probably VOIP).
talk_logo-744930.gif
Gmail is unlimited, googleMaps is live, google desktop search is blazing fast; so what makes this new chat client special?

That's a great question. I can't seem to figure that out. There just isn't anything that remarkable about this client. The closest thing to interesting is the "joint search" feature they are working on. Do we really need to search together?

My brother has his review here.

First Day Of Class part Deux

Today marks the second first day of the rest of my life. Sophomore year has, in fact, begun. I have already:

Moved In

Taken my 122 Placement exam (results pending)

Been to Math

Not much. I have yet to get IG88 (My beastly powerful machine) connected to Case's glorious network due to technical difficulties. Namely case is a bunch of wankers. They sold me a fiber card that is classified as "obsolete" therefore i have to go to them to get the drivers. (I lost them when I removed XP and installed Vista).

Flight pics up, many more photos to come!

Traffic is Up

Despite my post-moving absence for the past week, SLV (super luminous velocity) has continued to pull in a good ammount of traffic. This month has been an all time high for me with 662 unique visitors, and 11830 hits so far. Check out my stats for more details, in case you care that my blog got 87 hits from the Netherlands (Hello Netherlands viewers!) and other such meticulous information.

Arival At Case

Adios West Cost

Shalom California, Shalom Cleveland! (Shalom means hello and goodbye in Hebrew). I just printed out both of my Southwest boarding passes and I got 'A' for both. I wonder how long it will be until so many people print their tickets at home that you must do so IMMEDIATELY after midnight. People will start using auto ticket printers a la sniping programs for ebay. What's next, baconated coffe

Last Post from Cali

I'm about to disasemble my beloved IG88 (AMD 64 3200+, Athalon 9800 All in Wonder Fiber, Optic Network card, Gig of Memory, 280gigs HD space, with lots of love in it) for transport in the belly of an airliner to the "it's not so bad" state: Ohio.IMGP0334.JPGIt always makes me a little nervous, boxing her up and placing her in the hands of those ruffian cargo crews but it is my only option. Good luck IG. And may the force be with you.

Toshiba Releases perpendicular Storage Drives

Manufacturer Toshiba released their newest mp3 player with a perpendicular harddrive. Essentially what this means is that they made the platter's deeper, and stood up all the bits on their ends in order to prevent the super-para-magnetic effect. Think i'm speaking greek? Check out their amazing School House Rock-esque video explaining it. (Grab some headphones first!)

Last Day Working at Hedgestreet

The day of reckoning has come. My final day of work as an intern for Hedgestreet . I've spent most of today getting ready to leave, zipping up files and finalizing my last project (an internal blog for the operations team). Went out for a goodbye lunch yesterday and today, someone even made special cookies for my departure. (Thanks Chris!)

Tag Cloud Implemented on SLV

I have just replaced my "google relates" module with a far cooler Planet Case TagCloud Module. Tag Clouds are a fairly innovative size based importance Folksonomy tool that aggregates from any given feeds. The one I have posted on my blog shows the relation between super luminous velocity and Planet Case

Virgin Galactic Greenlighted by US DDTC

U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) gave Virgin Galactic of the UK the go ahead to share information with the Mojave based Scaled Composites. Under US law any firm classified as an air weapons manufacturer needs to be given permission before sharing that technology with other countries for obvious reasons. Virgin Galactic, headed up by the market straddling mogul Richard Branson (my hero) bought the rights to Burt Rutan's Spaceship One, winner of the Anasari X-prize.

I would actually pay to see this one in the theater. Who would write the soundtrack?

New Domain Name!

Super Luminous Velocity now has a domain name! After my older brother Steve upgraded to an actual domain name, I decided it was about time I ponied up and bought one myself. After many long hours of contemplation, I could not decide whether to get an adress refering to my name or the name of the blog, so I got both.

super luminous velocity is now available at

http://www.theNeuman.com and http://www.superluminousvelocity.com.

Is that snazzy or what?! It was far cheaper then I had expected it to be, especially for buying two!

YouToob Video Blog

The most astonishing thing happened between last night and this morning. Last night I was out shooting photos and videos of my sweet new Glo Toob the LimeLight. Afterward, I was thinking:

I wish there was a flickr for videos so that I could post these new clips on super luminous velocity

Glo Toob Fun!

Travis and I went and experimented with my new Glo Toob FX (affectionately nicknamed the LimeLight for short) and took some really sweet photos that i just uploaded to my flickr photostream. IMGP1156.JPG

We found that it was difficult to write with the LimeLight, but by switching to the fast blinking mode we could achieve some very sweet reults. In one serize, I asked travis to give himself a halo and captured it, and then took a pic of him standing in the same place with flash. The plan is to superimpose the 2 together to create St. Travis. I'll post it in my Deviant Art page when it's ready.

We also took some sweet video footage!

Steve Has New Domain

My older brother Steven has just relocated his blog to the ultracool domain name of www.StevenNeuman.com. I am now considering snatching up www.superluminousvelocity.com it isn't even that expensive. Problem is, no one can remember it anyway, I know this because all they would have to do is google for "super luminous velocity" and they would be brought here by the first hit.

Kind of makes me wonder if the usefullness of domains is being eroded by google. Why bother with the adress if you can just search for it, and be presented with a plethora of extra information and related links?

Countdown to Case

Getting ready to return to Case. Have my flight plan and everything. All I have left to do now is pack my giant body bag, and internal frame backpack full of junk and I'll be ready to fly.

Twelve days to go.

Countdown: T-11 days, 21 hours, 27 minutes and 9 seconds

Gravatars Down

Apparently, the domain name of www.gravatars.com went down recently, and therefore, all gravatars all over the internet went down as well. Damn eh? Hopefully they will return soon, otherwise i will disable mine. Untill then I hope all you IE users enjoy little black boxes.

Negative and Positive Info

"In a development that would probably even puzzle Claude Shannon, information can be negative -- at least when the information is quantum. The discovery, by Horodecki, Oppenheim, and Winter, appears in the current edition of the leading journal Nature. If I tell you negative information, you'll know less. Apparently, researchers hope to use this to gain deeper insights into phenomena such as quantum teleportation and computation, as well as the very structure of the quantum world. More details can be found here and here A popular account of the article can be found on Oppenheim's homepage, and a free version of the article can be found in the arxiv for those of us without subscriptions to Nature." -Slashdot

That must be why i feel so much dumber after sitting through 3 ours of "negative information" chick flick, and so much smarter after a few hours of "positive information" Star Wars.

Older Brother Steven

So, I just setup might technorati accounts today and it has a feature which allows me to see who is linking to me from within blog postings. Now I realize that the only person who has actually linked to me from within a post brother Steven. Steven is a journalist who goes to the University of Oregon in Eugene is actually a fairly successful journalists considering hasn't even graduated yet. For example, this summer he has an internship in Spokane Washington where he gets to be especially like Clark Kent, he finds a story follows it throughout the day and publishers three articles one for the morning and noon and evening paper on that topic. Pretty cool huh? He's already had two front page articles. Interestingly enough one of them is about bloggers joining together to help solve a crime by gathering information. More recently he had a front page article about the triple fatal car crash. He's a really good guy and I thought you should know.

Glo Toob

Just eBayed me one of these. Wanted one for about a year, couldn't resist anymore, besides, i'm not buying the tablet as soon as i wanted too, this is a consolation prize.

More on voice command

For the life of me I cannot understand why Microsoft windows vista voice recognition software will not allow me to type information into my 1,000,000,000,000 software. While when I said "type TRILLIaN" it but I said 1,000,000,000,000, as in the number. I was even positive that that was our number I mean honestly here goes around saying the number TRILLI an all the time only at 1:00 of the store and pick up a trillion apples are men at the public a trillion checks the other day.

I'm constantly impressed by this voice recognition software. Already it figured out What I meant when I was saying TRILLIan. Granted it still spelling of the funny but it did pick it up very quickly. TRILLIaN is not even a real word I suppose Microsoft had it in their heads that with a number of new words being created every day on the Internet you would need to be able to learn them very rapidly.

I have discovered some bugs in the system. For example Windows media player ceased to allow me to commanded by voice last night for no apparent reason. This is disturbing to me because I would like to use this new version of windows as a base for my media center PC I'll be building in my college suite at case next semester (I just sneezed and all it did was beat the very smart) and windows media player is likely to be the centerpiece. I've tested this new version with winamp last night I wasn't able to select items in win by using the "click"command, which is fairly disappointing. I'm going to look into the programming SDK to see if I can feasably create a working for is controlled winamp version.

Another thing that's been bothering me is the difficulty of use of the new Internet Explorer seven with this voice commands software. For example I can just say address bar and then give it a web address in fact I have yet to go to figure out a way to navigate to a non bookmarked address via voice at all. This seems like a pretty basic functionality that Microsoft should have built in if they wanted this to be a good test of the software. Additionally I tried to install AOL instant messenger, but alas I had no success, some crap about the web messaging software being out of date.

More to come, next up: virtual folders. This is where the real fun begins.

Voice recognition rocks

Begin testing of peace to voice recognition system:

This is a test of Microsoft windows vista I'm testing to see how well the voice recognition software can keep up with me speaking. I want to start speaking as fast as I can and see if it will keep up. So far so good at looking at a really hot photo of my very cute girl friend named Laura. I would really like to use the software to post postings on my blog. So it seemed like the software can keep up pretty quickly I mean I can pretty much talk as quickly as I want faster and faster and faster and might even go bowling or put on that suite II can't even think of things to say as quickly as he can keep the man that really impressive and I'm really just sitting and talking as quickly as I can and it's just writing and it takes a second attack job but then it does a bill that pop up on the screen about 2 seconds after bouncing a while.

OK. So maybe can't quite keep up that well. But still it did do a damn good job. I mean I am pretty impressed with this is by far the best voice recognition software I have ever used. If I talk to the Normal speed and Normal level or even faster than Normal speed and wider than a Normal level it still works! It even allows me to put in !'s. Anyway it's getting late I think I'm gonna go to bed much more to come tomorrow. I'll do my first day of write-down of work and I do have Microsoft Windows beta one vista. It's pretty sweet I highly recommend it if you have the means.

This concludes my first test of the Microsoft windows beta voice recognition system. This

entire post has in fact been written by voice command. Not only that but it has also been navigated by voice command. That's right this entire blog posting was created without the use of a mouse. Microsoft, you might be the evil empire but you sure are great and making software.

Testing Microsoft vista

I have just installed the beta version of Microsoft Vista, it is absoloutely amazing. It has exactly the kind of voice recognition functionality i have been looking for in an OS! It even automatically set up my network and installed drivers it doesn't fully support for my ethernet by itself. All i had to do to connect to the internet was enter my isp information!

I haven't had much time to test it as it is late, but there will be plenty of updates as it is now my OS of choice for general day to day functioning (everything seems to work ok).

Yahoo 360 beta

Yahoo is in the process of creating a blog aggregation portal as discussed here and on Jeremy Smith's blog earlier this summer. It's called Yahoo 360 and it's still in beta mode. (more)

Tag System Error Caused Rendering Problem

For some reason, ading tags to posts causes the database or rendering systerm of MovableType to glitch up in category sorted lists. I removed the tags (eventually i realized that that was the only difference in the problematic post) and the error dissapeared.
