Psychology and Counseling - Master Degree Scholarship

Qualifications
This scholarship program is open to students pursuing Psychology and Counseling master’s degrees. Undergraduate students do not qualify. A wide range of degree programs will be considered including but not limited to:

* Clinical Psychology Master’s Degrees
* Community Counseling Master’s Degrees
* Counseling Psychology Master’s Degrees
* Guidance Counseling Master’s Degrees
* Mental Health Counseling Master’s Degrees
* Marriage and Family Counseling Master’s Degrees

Selection is based on academic history, extracurricular activities, and employment history. Financial need is not considered.

Deadline
April 1st of each year.

A. Patrick Charnon Scholarship

Qualifications
Recipients must be admitted or enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program of study in an accredited four-year college or university in the United States. They must maintain good academic standing and make progress toward a degree. The Charnon Scholarship Review Committee will decide whether applicants fulfill the requirements of the award. The selection committee looks for candidates who value tolerance, compassion and respect for all people in their communities, and who have demonstrated their commitments to these values by their actions.

Deadline
March 31st.

Submit
In addition to the application form, you need to submit a 2-4 page essay (typed, double-spaced) explaining how community service experiences have shaped your life and how you will use your college educations to build communities in a manner consistent with Pat Charnon's values of compassion, tolerance, generosity and respect. We also require an official transcript from your high school or college and three letters of reference addressed to the Charnon Scholarship Selection Committee.

Applications must be postmarked by March 31st for the academic year beginning in August or September. Recipients will be notified of their award in early August, and a profile of the recipient will be posted on The Center website.

Truman Scholarship

Qualifications
* At the time I apply, I will be a full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree with junior-level academic standing; I have senior-level standing in my third year of college enrollment; or I am a senior and a resident of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, or a Pacific Island. Note: Students who have completed their bachelor's degree or are already attending graduate school are not eligible for the Truman Scholarship.

* I am a U.S. citizen (or a U.S. national from a Pacific Island) or I expect to receive my citizenship by the date the Scholarship will be awarded.

* I want to work in government, education, the nonprofit sector, or the public interest/advocacy sector to improve these conditions.

* I am comfortable committing to work in public service for three of the first seven years after I complete a Foundation-funded graduate degree.

* I would like to get a master's degree, a doctorate, or a professional degree such as a law degree or a Master of Public Administration, Master of Public Health, Master of Social Work, Master of Education, Master of Public Policy, or Master of International Affairs.

* I have participated extensively in two or more of the following sets of activities:
- Student government and/or campus-based extracurricular activities
- Community service-related activities that were not organized by my school or by my fraternity/sorority
- Government internships, commissions or boards, advocacy or interest groups, nonpartisan political activities, or military/ROTC
- Partisan political activities and campaigns

* I believe I could hold my own in a challenging interview conducted by a panel of prominent public servants, educators, and former Truman Scholars.

Truman Scholars Leadership Week: May 24 through May 30, 2010.

The Truman Application consists of an Institutional Nomination form and letter, three additional letters of recommendation, a recent transcript, a 14 question application, and a policy proposal.

Social Sciences BA Degree Scholarship

Qualifications:
This scholarship program is open to students pursuing Social Science related majors. High school students enrolled in a bachelor program in the Social Sciences next year are also eligible to receive the scholarship. Graduate students are not eligible. A wide range of degree programs will be considered including but not limited to:

Sociology Bachelor’s Degrees
Psychology Bachelor’s Degrees
Political Science Bachelor’s Degrees
Economics Bachelor’s Degrees
