School of Graduate Studies, '71, education
Birthplace: Nashville, Tennessee

Speech and drama. Plus, a father who studied music at Fisk University under famed composer and music educator John Work III, left no room for doubt where Patricia Hoover would attend school. "We lived just a few blocks from campus, and my dad and I always talked about me one day going there."
Ms. Hoover did go there: She majored in speech and drama, finishing her studies in 1968. To prepare for a career in higher education, she learned of Case Western Reserve University's reputation as an excellent place for graduate study.
After earning her master's degree in education, she taught for two years at Cleveland State University and served as the assistant to the dean of student services. She also worked for the National Urban Coalition's education division in Washington, D.C. She returned to Cleveland and taught in East Cleveland Schools for a year, then spent the next 22 years teaching at Cuyahoga Community College. She retired in 2005.
