Eugene White spent more than 30 years as a neuroradiologist in the Cleveland area. He served as a consultant at numerous hospitals in a six-county area. He held an appointment as clinical professor of radiology at the Western Reserve University (WRU) School of Medicine, now the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
His fondest memory of Fisk is serving as student council president, singing, and traveling with the renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers. The group traveled to Europe and the British Isles. He graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Fisk, then went on to WRU School of Medicine. He received his medical degree in 1964. He continued his education, studying neurology in Sweden, and French in Paris. He participated in international scientific and medical meetings in Canada, Japan, and Europe. Dr. White published scientific articles in referenced national and international journals and made many scientific presentations. His interests have always bridged the sciences and humanities.
He taught for about seven years at WRU's medical school before deciding to venture into private practice. He was a partner in Drs. Hill & Thomas, Inc. for 23 years, retiring in 1993. He has been an active member of the American Medical Association and the American and International Societies of Neuroradiology.
Dr. White also has been active in civic, educational, and community activities, holding board positions with Fisk University, the Cleveland Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the Great Lakes Theater Festival, Initiatives for Urban Education, and the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine Alumni Association. He considers himself a lifelong advocate of education and a community activist, and served for many years as vice president of Shaker (Ohio) Concerned Parents.
He is a member of the Cleveland Council on Foreign Relations, the Rowfant Club, the Cleveland Skating Club, the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He is a life member of the NAACP, and an emeritus member of the American Society of Neuroradiology and the International Society of Neuroradiology. Dr. White holds honorary memberships in the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music fraternity. He is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
Since his retirement, he has traveled to Australia and Africa with the Duffy-Litt Ensemble. He has two sons and a daughter.
