- Theresa went over the schedule she passed out before the meeting. She noted that several of the dates are still tentative, and that GAHA would notify everyone through email and the GAHA blog about set dates and times for events.

- Maryam announced the mixer for this Saturday, September 13. We will meet at La Cav du Vin for drinks and conversation and to relax and regroup. The Cave, as it is often called, is located on the corner of Euclid Heights Blvd. and Coventry, below the entrance to the Inn on Coventry.
- GAHA will try to have a mixer at least once a month, most likely on a Saturday. If anyone has any ideas about the location of the next mixer, please email Maryam

- Theresa next discussed the upcoming PowePoint presentation, which will take place on Monday, September 15, at 5:30 in Mather 100. The presentation will be given by Jared Bendis, an Art History PhD and Creative Director at the Freedman Center. The workshop will hopefully help students create presentations that communicate their points well.

- Theresa discussed a tentative tour of the MOCA show Tour of Jorge Pardo: House, Sheila Pree Bright: Suburbia and Facing. The show opens on Friday, and students taking Dr. Carrier’s class were asked to write a paper about it. Two PhD students, Megan Lykins and Indra Lacis, work at MOCA and were in charge of curating the shows. We have yet to set a date for a group trip to see the show.

- Theresa discussed the A.B.D. Anonymous, a sort of support group for PhDs who need a chance to vent and chat about their dissertations. A ‘meeting’ will take place at Campus Arabica on Sunday, September 28 at 1 pm.

- Theresa discussed the October GAHA meeting, saying we are currently working on scheduling a date and time, and will let everyone know once we do.

- Maryam discussed the Tremont Art Walk, which happens on the second Friday of each month. Basically, all the galleries in the Tremont area stay open from 6-10, and lots of people come out to look at everything. The next Art Walk in Tremont is October 10. The specific exhibitions in the galleries are known to the public a week before the walk. If anyone is interested in going, we plan to meet in front of the Kelvin Smith Library and carpool to the Tremont area from there. Once in Tremont, we will look at galleries and maybe get something to eat.

- Maryam next discussed the Slideshow at MOCA. She, Jen Friess, and Theresa Bembnister are in charge of organizing the event, which will happen at 6pm on Wednesday, October 22 at the MOCA gallery. The show, basically, was the brainchild of last year’s GAHA co-chairs. It is a juried exhibition of local student work from the North East Ohio area. There are going to be four curators: Megan Lykins Reich, Dana Depew, Paul Sobota, the curator of Front Room gallery and Jennifer Finkel of the Cleveland Clinic. There will be three monetary prizes: 1st - $150, 2nd - $100, 3rd - $50. If you’re interested in helping, the Slideshow still needs help creating PowerPoints and programs. Contact Theresa or Maryam.

MOCA is also hosting a college night on the same night as the Slideshow, so people can still come later and have fun. There will be DJs and food.

- Theresa announced the Resume/CV workshop sponsored by GAHA. The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, at 11:30 in Mather 100. Guest speakers Holly Witchey, Dr. Katherine Scallen, and Dr. Anne Helmreich will discuss resumes and curriculum vitae, what you need/don’t need, what the resume/cv should look like. Finally, the will address any questions the audience has related to resumes and CVs.

- Theresa mentioned that the November GAHA meeting has yet to be scheduled as well, but that GAHA will keep everyone informed.
- Maryam discussed a planned tour for the Art History Grads of the Artistic Luxury Exhibition. Christina Larson, a PhD in the Art History department, is working on the show, and she was able to help us get a tour together with the curator in charge of the show. The tentative date is Friday, November 14th at 12:30. GAHA will send out an email as soon as we know it’s a for sure thing. The tour will be about an hour long, through the show, featuring highlights of the exhibition, and probably some interesting stories about how the show came about. This event is given in conjunction with the GAHA Art Talks series.

- Maryam discussed the status on the Methods Reception. It’s tradition for GAHA to give a reception for the first years after their methodologies presentations. Maryam has contacted the special events person at the CMA, since that is where we would like to have the reception. However, we’re still waiting for a solid yes from the special events person. If the CMA won’t work out as a venue, we plan to have the reception somewhere on Case campus, possibly in Mather 100. We will have food and drinks, and it will be a time for the first years to relax after a semester of hard work.

- Maryam discussed GAHA’s progress on organizing a Movie Night. Andrew is interested in Herzog films (i.e. Heart of Glass). The Case Film Society has agreed to help us out with advice and a possible venue at Strosacker Auditorium, which even has concessions space. If any has any suggestions, contact Maryam.

- At this point in time, Theresa reminded the group that GAHA exists for its members. Any suggestions for events are welcome. One student even thought of a clothing trade, since most of us are women. We will take the suggestions and see what we can do to make stuff happen.

- Theresa explained that this year GAHA is using a blog to get the news out. In previous years, we’ve used a wiki or blackboard, but Jared suggested a blog might be the best way to go for the types of information we want the post. We plan on posting the minutes on the blog.

- Andrew talked about the Graduate Symposium. He explained the history of the symposium, which occurs annual and is now entirely student run (before, there was one faculty advisor). The people in charge this year are Andrew, Megan Carpenter, and Jen Friess. The date of the event is Friday, February 20th, the week before the annual CAA meeting in LA. The symposium hopes to have a call for papers ready by the end of this week, and the theme is....there is no theme. It’s a completely open call for papers, although themes for different sessions may occur. There is one slot for a Case grad student, who will be chosen by the faculty. The mass deadline for entries is going to be in December, and the deadline for Case students may be at the same time or slightly later.

The Symposium people need plenty of volunteers to help out. Andrew passed out a sign up sheet with the following categories:
- Three (3) people need to serve as session chairs. This is the most important task, and involves introducing the speakers, as well as having questions ready to ask the readers. This task may be more time intensive.
- Four (4) people to help with marketing, press releases, flyers, street teaming and other forms of advertising
- Four (4) people are needed as greeters for symposium guests
need lots of volunteers to do different things
- (optional) Ambassadors for the symposium readers would pick up, drive around, and possibly house symposium presenters. This is not a high priority, the reasoning being that professional symposia rarely provide these services to their presenters.
Rebecca asked what sessions people might chair, and Andrew said that depends on the papers chosen. However, if a session chair has a preference, then they can express this preference, and the Symposium co-chairs will try their best to accommodate. Andrew also pointed out that the sign up sheet he was passing around wasn’t binding.

- Theresa asked if anyone had any questions. She then mentioned that if anyone knew a student artist in the NE Ohio area, please tell them about the Slideshow. The submissions are due September 22. She also mentioned that the Slideshow has a Facebook page, as well as a webpage at www.slideshowatmoca.com.

- Maryam discussed the current status of the Art Talk series. We changed the name from Art for Lunch to Art Talk, since the presentations will be in the CMA lecture halls for the most part. These presentations are a good way to practice for symposia or just to get out your ideas. We have about 5 people signed up so far. Andrew, for example, is doing an Art Talk in December. If you are interested in doing an Art Talk, contact Maryam. She is trying to put together a list of presentations, including the Lalique tour. We hope to have a tentative schedule at the next GAHA meeting.

- We then concluded the meeting. I asked if anyone had any other questions or comments, and Maryam reminded people about the mixer on Saturday.
