Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

Posted at July 23, 2004 03:29 PM in .

So my old man and his wife (my father and mother) are coming up to Cleveland to visit. I guess my mother can't go more than ninety days without seeing me. I have no clue what will happen if she doesn't. Perhaps spontaneous human combustion is involved. I wouldn't know: she will never let that event occur.

So the question of the day is what am I going to do with my parents. A vision of a cow comes to mind. You may ask, "what does this have to do with cows?" The answer: milk. Milking is the process by which one extorts pathos from someone else. Hopefully, my parents will be in a good mood this weekend. It would be great if I could acquire, say, a road bike or even a laptop.

Even if I don't manage to milk them for an expensive gift, I will still walk away with free meals for the weekend. They are staying down in Independence. We will probably hit Quaker Steak and Lube tonight. My dad wants to go to the DLP theater down there, so he will probably treat me to I, Robot. Saturday might be spent bike riding and shopping. My mother is in love with Legacy Village, having only been there once. Maybe we can go to the Apple store while there... For Saturday evening, I bought Cleveland Orchestra tickets for the performance at Blossom. The thing I love about orchestra concerts is you can spend a few hours with somebody and not have to worry about them starting meaningless conversion (not that my mother does such a thing!).

Anyway, I hope things will run smoothly. Perhaps I will even have time to post an update this weekend. I am a little disappointed that I probably won't have time to do home improvement around the house this weekend. Oh well. I've earned a break anyway.
