Long Day / Rant

Posted at July 24, 2004 11:57 PM in .

My day began at the bright and cheery hour of 8 AM this morning. I drove down to Independence to meet up with my parents at their hotel so they could treat me to their complimentary breakfast. The rest of the day was hectic to say the least.

Breakfast was excellent, probably due to the fact it is the first real breakfast I have had in months. After breakfast, my father and I headed to the tow path, a rail-trail through the Cuyahoga park for thirty-six miles of cycling fun. Averaging around fifteen miles per hour on the hard-pack surface, our trek lasted around one-hundred fifty minutes. We got back at the hotel around 12:30, at which time we both took a quick shower to cool off. After that, it was out for a day of shopping.

We first went to Legacy Village. We ate at Chipotle there because my mother will not miss an opportunity to eat at Chipotle, a fast food chain that has yet to establish a business presence near my parents. We shopped around at Legacy Village, finding surprisingly little of interest. Afterwards, we headed north. First, we dropped by Audiocraft on Mayfield Rd. My parents are looking for a new DVD player to replace our aging Toshiba model. Unfortunately, the selection at Audiocraft left a lot to be desired. Next, we headed further north to Eddy's Bike Shop to look for biking supplies for myself. I want a road bike so bad. Why do the things have to cost over $1000? Unfortunately, I took only a dream and a pair of gloves away with me from that store. Next, we headed to Beechwood Place, the premiere mall here in Cleveland. I bought another pair of Merrells at Nordstrom. I believe that makes my total Merrell pair count stand at four. I was extremely disappointed that I was unable to find any good clothes at Nordstrom and Dillards. I could not find any of my favorite brand of the moment, Alfani. Oh well. We grabbed a quick dinner at the mall, then headed off to Blossom for the Cleveland Orchestra concert. The concert featured the entire performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The Cleveland Orchestra performed it superbly. After the concert, I dropped my parents back off at their hotel and headed home.

When I got back to the house, I was immediately pissed off, for Tom had parked in my garage spot. There are few things that anger me. One is when something is taken from me without my knowledge. This could be a pencil from my desk, a beer from my fridge, or even a parking spot. Luckily, when I entered the house, Tom was having a conversation in a public area in the house, so I could ask him what was up. Apparently, Brian told him to park in my spot. When Tom realized I was kind of upset, he was apologetic, so my beef with Tom has been transferred to Brian. At this time, I have yet to talk to Brian, because Norm explained the situation to me. I will summarize: "bullshit, bullshit, bullshit, bullshit, etc." Apparently, I lost my spot to the apartment tenant who doesn't even have a car: her boyfriend does. I talked things over with them last week, and the guy was ok with not having a spot. Since he would only be around after six, when the parking on the street is free, he didn't mind not having a spot. Besides, since I solely cleaned out the garage one Saturday in May, I more or less claimed the spot as my own. I would be willing to bet my life savings that had I not cleaned the garage then, it would still be in utter chaos. Now, going back to my beef with the fraternity. I wouldn't mind giving up my parking spot if certain things around the house were happening. Unfortunately, everybody seems to be infected with lazyassedness at the moment, so those things aren't happening. Hell, even the mail wasn't brought in today. I had to bring it in at 11:15 PM! Some claim there is nothing to do around the house. Well, here is a short list: finish the basement bathroom, weed the lawn, paint our address sign, clean the basement, install the volleyball light, stain the deck, plant the shrubbery, buy house cleaning supplies, finish the foyer ceiling, finish the sewer, fix the drain out back, trim the tree by the garage, clean the garage, edge the sidewalk. GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASSES AND PULL YOUR OWN WEIGHT AROUND HERE. I am not sure how long I can go doing more labor around the house than the sum of all other active brothers combined. Actually, I know the answer to that. Pending keeling over and dying, at least until the end of the summer. I can only hope that once Bill and the eager (now) sophomores get here that things will change. What am I saying? Things will change. They better change. They must change.

Do people around here not realize that sacrifice is part of brotherhood? Sure, we could sit around and watch our thirty premium cable channels all day, but what would we get from it? Or, we could actively put forth an effort to improve the quality of our house, both aesthetically and physically. This would require effort, yes, but the fruits of our labor are worthwhile. When I am married and move into my first house, I do not want to pay a contractor to come in and perform maintenance on my house when I need something done. I want to do it myself. I want to know how to do it right. How can I learn how to do it right? Simple, I learn how to do it here. I've already learned so much about home improvement since I've lived in the house. Although I have only hit the tip of the iceberg, I am leaps and bounds ahead of most my age. Since life is a game, I guess that means I am winning. Sit and bask in marvel of your superior movie and poker knowledge while I make love to my future wife on the self-made deck of my future house, lazy-asses.

Of course, I know this blog entry is bound to piss off a number of people. Instead of silently carrying a grudge against me for having these feelings, do the compassionate thing and talk to me about them.

Mypiercing fetish first started in 5th grade when I saw my friend get her belly button pierced. It was really cool and I wanted one right away. I asked my parents, but I was like ten, so obviously the answer was a definite no. When I was in seventh grade I started nagging and nagging them. No no no no no. Only if I got all A's and B's was I allowed. I promised my mom that I would show her some good grades, then she would let me get it pierced and if I didn't keep my grades up I'd take it out. Sounds good. In 8th grade, I wrote up a contract saying I would keep my grades up, and keep my room clean and what not. I don't get the best grades, but my room usually stays clean. Most of the rules that I made for my belly button ring I didn't keep, but my mom thinks it's cute so she's not going to make
me take it out.
