Cruise Control
Today I took a break from my pro-active role around the house and managed to accomplish a lot of nothing.
The day started by waking up at 11:00 and meeting my parents downtown at the Cathedral for Sunday Mass. After that, we drove back here to pick up some things. My parents were both disgusted at the condition of the house. I guess I will add them to that long list. We drove out to the Verizon store to check out cell phones. Since I couldn't find anything better than the one my mother just got me, I decided to keep it. I was hoping to get something with Bluetooth so I could sync it with my computer, but that didn't happen. We had a late lunch at TGI Fridays. Among things we discussed was the laptop situation. Our deal is they will pay for half of a new laptop. Since I am pretty much settled on an Apple iBook, that shouldn't amount to more than $700 on my part. As much as I would like to put that much money towards my car audio system, I think it will have to wait.
Anyway, after lunch, my parents paid for a new tank of gas then departed town. I headed back to the house, started up a load of laundry, and bummed it for the rest of the day. My day took a better turn when Tom came in and said he felt bad about taking my garage spot and offered it back. The deal is I can take it back as soon as he moves his car out of it, whenever that may be. In a related encounter, Brian came in to my room today and forcefully told me not to park in people's parking spots (I had since parked my car in Tom's old spot). I don't know what the big deal was, as there were at least two empty spots out back this week. The least he could have done was ask me why I was parked where I am. I guess we have some beef to work out. Who knows.
I literally spent the whole day doing a lot of nothing. As a result, I feel like crap. This mundane lifestyle, albeit only for six hours has left a scar on my attitude. It feels like depression. I feel bad for the people that do this every day of their life. All is well, though, as tomorrow brings a bright new day to start anew. I can't wait to go riding in my new bike suit. Yes, I bought some skin-tight biker shorts and shirt.
As for projects this week, there are plenty of opportunities. We are planting the garden in front of the house this week. It needs a ton of work. It will be difficult to find time to do that while still getting in some long bike rides this week. I'm considering stepping up the daily ride to forty miles. I just need to find a longer route. As for other projects, there is still the main floor foyer ceiling. It needs some trim in the ante-room and the ceiling needs some patch and sanding work. I can't wait to get up on the ladder and cake the house with drywall paste dust again. It sucks more than you can imagine.
Of course, there are still my computer projects. I'm developing my own content management system. I haven't been working on it too hard in the last week, unfortunately. The plan is to market this thing to Case, as there is a university-wide directive to convert all sites to a new template format by August 31st and my product makes this very simple (and affordable). You can read all about it on the project site (which is powered by the product, of course). In other computer-related news, I finally got my computer working consistently again. Aiming a 12" fan at the case seems to cure the heat-caused instability issues. Go figure. I have solidified my position in the geek domain by running Gentoo Linux for three months now. I never thought I would be using Linux on my main desktop, but it makes things so much faster.
So that's been my day. Boring, eh? The weather tomorrow better be bike ride permitting. I refuse to wait until Tuesday to go out on my bike again.
Until next time.
