The Weather Finally Co-operates
For the first time since Saturday, the weather was permitting of a bike ride. Of course, I yielded this opportunity to not only go for my usual thirty mile ride, but also to try out my new biking apparel (no, it isn't leather).
I must admit, when I first put on the skin-tight biker shorts, I felt a little awkward. Karen, an amiable co-worker, warned me this would be so. As soon as I got on my bike, the feeling disappeared, however. Between my shorts, shirt, and gloves, I was about as comfortable as can be on my bike. The added benefit of the gloves was the first quality I noticed. Gripping the handle bars and the gear shifter feels so much better now. My palms don't get sweaty and I can change gears without worrying about my palm slipping. Later, the padded comfort of the shorts became equally apparent. After about an hour, the time I usually start hurting (down there), the pain was non-existent. Needless to say, I was very happy with my new biking apparel. Is the extra comfort worth the $110 it all cost? Probably not. Is the peace of mind from not worrying about my future children worth it? Damn straight. There are other benefits to wearing the whole uniform. For instance, I caught an above-average amount of girls window shopping at me. Was it the beautiful weather? Perhaps, but I like to think it was "my sexy booty."
Unfortunately, the whole aspect of the ride wasn't terrific. Around the twenty-three mile mark, I started to experience mild muscle fatigue. I'm not sure why this is; I did thirty-six miles on Saturday without a problem. It probably had something to do with my light lunch and lack of water ingestion during the day. I'll just have to grab a bigger lunch next time. (In reality, only the food portion of lunch was small, as Karen's company filled a void that would otherwise be empty).
So it is eight-thirty now. Feeling in my legs is coming back, so I'll see what I can get done around the house.
