The VOIP Phones Aren't Just a Paperweight
The other day I was told to investigate the possibilities for interfacing with the new VOIP phones appearing all around campus. It turns out that these things can be used as simple PDA's. 10 minutes after having someone add a web service to my phone, I am able to read the Planet Case RSS feed on my VOIP phone! Next project: setting up a RTP streaming server to record and distribute podcasts via the VOIP system.
The possibilities are endless...

As a communications major I was/am interested in the VoIP call data stored in the SQL database. From it, one could generate a nifty visual representation for the social networks on campus, analyzing which departments talked to which deparments, and which ones are isolates.
Network theory and comparing the internet to social networks is something I find incredibly interesting, especially the resiliancy component.
