More Metadata on the Case Wiki -- Now With Google Maps
I have been playing around with storing metadata in the Case Wiki. I have gone so far as to create a Metadata namespace dedicated to the storing of metadata. I have documented my progress at CaseWiki:XML Embedding Extension.
There is no question whether there is a use to easily obtain metadata about objects around the university. The question is whether a wiki is the proper place to collect and store such data. A strong case can be made either way.
One of the benefits of storing it in the wiki is I can bring you an enhanced CaseWiki:Map. When you click on a building, you can see a list of what is inside of that building. The list of what is inside a building is extracted from the metadata in real-time. Cool!

Greg,
I've been following your mapping progress with much interest. Replacing with something more functional is one of the projects on my to-do list. My plan is to build something in flash, but I think your solution is great as well and would be a super addition to the visiting Case page.
Do you know if google places any sort of legal restrictions on using their imagery for this purpose? Would we need to pay a licensing fee?
Oops. I goofed up the code. This link refers to http://www.case.edu/visit/map/bigmap.html
Info on the Google Maps licensing can be found at http://www.google.com/apis/maps/. I don't believe there is anything that prevents the university from using the API for this purpose.
