News Travels Faster With Blogs

Posted at August 20, 2005 10:38 AM in ATOM , Blog@Case , Planet Case , RSS , syndiacted feeds .

I was excited to hear the news yesterday about OneCleveland. Like most things nowadays, I was notified of the announcement through a Planet Case syndicated feed. The Blog@Case system allowed this news to be published quickly and the world was notified via syndicated feeds which are read by numerous aggregators. I checked www.case.edu for the official press release, only to find none. Just then it struck me; I hadn't checked the news on the main Case page in over a month! I am so used to my browser informing me when news updates via RSS and ATOM feeds, that I just forgot to look at the news there. This raises the question, "Why isn't the Case News Center using this blog system for news releases?" I wish I could tell you, but I don't know. Until they do, we'll have to settle for the old-fashioned way of checking news: by hand.

Greg,
At some point we do expect to use the blog for news releases. We've been working with Jeremy on it, but there are a few things that need to be tweaked before it will do everything we would like it to do.

There is also the issue of integrating the thousands of pre-existing releases with the new content so that people can explore the webcontent seamlessly.

Good to hear that about the Case news system. Looks like someone has a lot of work cut out for him or her, however.
