Welcoming the Freshmen to Their Dorms
The title of this post is not politically correct. The politically correct version of the title is:
Welcoming the First Year Students to Their Residential Halls
The term freshmen is to be avoided at all costs. This word assumes that the person or people to whom it is directed are on a four year plan. Because of the atmosphere of experiential learning that Case provides, this is often not the case. Also, similar terms that imply a four year program should also be avoided. For example, The Class of 2009, sophomore, etc.
The term dormitory and all variants thereof should also to be avoided. This word has negative connotation and is not reflective of life at the residence halls at Case. The term residence hall should always be used in its place. In addition, if any member of Housing, Residence Life, & Greek Life hears the word dorm, he or she will spontaneously combust.
This has been a test of the Politically Correct Notification System (PCNS). If this had been a real emergency, this notification would be immediately followed by a swarm of e-mails from your supervisors informing you of the breach of political correctness. Again, this is only a test.
Thank you and have a good day.

It always struck me that, despite the political correctness so present everywhere else, the "Center for Women" remains so named. Oh, but actually they are renaming it. It's now the "Flora Stone Mather Center for Women." Great...
At least they didn't decide to name it the "Mather Center for Women", Colin. I've caught far too many people wandering around looking for Mathers in my three years here. I wonder if the addition of "Flora Stone Mather" was an attempt to placate some of the Western Reserve University alumni who are still upset that we've switched from CWRU to Case. (Members of the administration combust if they hear CWRU, you know.)
This post will never validate - you forgot to OPEN the <sarcasm> tag...
