Why is FOX Showing the Preview Right Before 24?

I love the television show 24. After each week's show, I don't watch the preview for the next week because I don't want anything ruined for me. So, why does FOX show the preview for the new 24 episode about 90s before it airs? I don't know either. It frustrates me.

I have also noticed that sometimes when I rent a movie, they will show the preview just before the movie. I have never understood that. It is obvious that I am going to watch , so what's the point?
