University Circle Less of a College Town
I was out with some friends tonight and we decided it was time for the old midnight snack. We decided on donuts and I was somehow convinced to drive to Little Italy to pick up a few dozen. I drove past Gilly's, only to see it was closed! Apparently management has changed (again). Gilly's is no longer open in the wee hours of the morning (my freshman year it was 24/7). So one restaurant decides not to stay open all night. What's the big deal you say! Well, the problem is there are no late-night eateries open at night (with the exception of Rascal House and possibly College Station). What kind of a college town is this? Within 1 circular mile of campus, there should be tons of late-night opportunities. There should be bars. There should be clubs. There should be pizza places. There should a pharmacy. There should be a grocery store. What we have from that list is so pathetic, that I don't even consider University Circle a college town. Sure, it has a large population of students, but what is there to do past 10 pm? Lot 41, the students of University Circle cannot wait for you to get developed. In the meantime, if you want to dream, fly out to Palo Alto, CA and check out University Av. in front of Stanford. That is what this town needs.
