Opinions about Motivation - A forum for discussion

I would like to ask anyone that has motivation advice to post comments with your advice.

Here are some ideas I had:

On the front end, in retail/sales industries, screen for people that really know love and understand the product. I conducted a career interview recently and it really helped to enlighten me to the importance of knowing the product. If someone really cares about what they are doing, they will be naturally motivated to work harder.

I also really believe in flexible scheduling, because if I work on my own terms I get much more done and feel a lot better about it. Another important factor in motivation is an outlet for employees to show their personality (like encouraging creative decoration of workspace). If your employees are able to connect with each other on some level other than short conversations at the watercooler, teambuilding will be a much easier task. I think the conclusion from this is that creativity/expression and motivation are linked together.

People who like what they're doing, are truly motivated much more. But, the problem with that idea is that it may be hard to find enough people with the love necessary for creating that motivation. As for flexible scheduling, my college schedule was extremely flexible in the beginning, and I find it to be excellent. To continue to be flexible would be too careless for an employer, as it would probably create laziness, as well as slower production. My suggestion is to let people choose certain schedules in periodical "terms", like a college schedule.

I agree Warren. You can't go too crazy with flexibility. You know the old saying, you give an inch, they take a mile. You still have to be able to run a business, so a periodical choice set up or evaulation system is the best bet for providing flexible scheduling that will be effective. It is really hard to align passion and work, especially since a lot of jobs arent a passion for those people. I don't think there is a person whose goal is to be the best at giving change in the world. Some jobs are really difficult to get people motivated for, and to begin to get those kind of answers you need to know what industry you are dealing with.

Hello,
I am having trouble with my Internet explorer. It is doing some very odd things.Sometimes it will completely close the page i am visiting for no reason or it will be very slow loading pages and when i say slow i mean very very very slow for eg i tried to google something and after 10 minutes of the page trying to load i gave up.I thought that it was perhaps the topic i was searching so i tried putting in random things to see if that made any difference but it didn't.Another problem i had was when i was on a forum and clicked on a link and nothing happened i tried to open a new tab and that wouldn't work either and it would let me access any options that are in my tools menu.i had to restart my computer.Just to let you know i have high speed Internet connection. Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me with this problem.
