Manager of the High Performance Computing Resource, Information Technology Services (Job 8909), minimum annual salary is $49,613, posted 11/20/09The Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) seeks a highly motivated Manager of the High Performance Computing (HPC) Resource to support its high performance computing facility, used to further the research mission of the university.
The main cluster in the HPC Resource currently provides over 800 processing cores, over 1600 GB of distributed memory, over 16 TB of distributed temporary disk storage, and over 40 TB of shared central disk storage to support computationally intensive research for a growing population of over 250 customers sponsored by over 80 faculty members from more than 27 academic departments. The HPC Resource hosts applications to support research in a wide variety of fields including computational fluid dynamics, molecular dynamics, image processing, nanotechnology, astrophysics, quantum mechanics, statistical genetics, signal processing, and cryptography. The HPC Resource has transitioned from a pilot project to a core facility model in which faculty support operations through investment of their external research funding. Cluster management software in active use includes Torque and Moab with possible future use of other cluster management software such as Sun Grid Engine. The RedHat Enterprise Linux operating system is used. The HPC Resource supports a moderately large assortment of applications packages and mathematical libraries for computationally-intensive research. The position involves close collaboration with faculty researchers, ITS system administrators in the Server and Storage Engineering group, postdoctoral computational scientists within ITS Advanced Research Computing, and other HPC cluster administrators throughout the university.
Supervision of one or more HPC Cluster Administrators and student employees is required. This position will report to the Director of Advanced Research Computing in ITS and will participate as an informal member of the ITS Server and Storage Engineering group.

Research Assistant 4 (Polysomnologist), Center for Clinical Investigation (CCI) (Job 8801), minimum annual salary is $40,662, posted 10/05/09Term Position currently funded through September, 2011
Working with a high degree of independence and under general direction, oversee the collection of data from four sites in Cleveland, Boston and Baltimore participating in a NIH funded clinical trial comparing oxygen with CPAP therapy for patients with heart disease. The individual will ensure that standardized high quality data are collected from home sleep records, 24 hour blood pressure recordings, and vascular tests performed in a clinical research setting. The individual also will be responsible for scoring all sleep records, following standardized protocols and process the data into formats amenable for digitized analysis. The individual also will edit and process the blood pressure and vascular measures and output from CPAP machines showing what pressures are needed for sleep apnea treatment. S/he will generate final analytical files with these data, summary quality reports, and assist with feedback to data collection technicians on ways to maintain or improve data quality. This individual will also need to identify in a timely manner physiological data that represent clinical problems and require prompt intervention.
Experience in polysomnography is required to assure that excellent quality of signals are captured, even in face of the challenges of monitoring in unattended settings. Must be able to learn new scoring procedures, and strictly follow NIH guidelines for study interpretation and analysis. Must maintain very high levels of scoring reliability. Must understand the technical operation of polysomnographic equipment and sophisticated computers for data acquisition and analysis. Requires extensive familiarity with hardware and software systems used in modern research data management, including MS Office, SAS or SPSS, MS Access or other SQL-based database, or other programming experience and aptitude to learn additional languages quickly. Summary of skills preferred SAS, SQL and TeleForm, also acceptable, SPSS, S-Plus, S, R, MS Access, MS SQL-Server, Oracle, mySQL, PostgreSQL, C#, ASP, Java, PHP.Requires experience in developing and managing relational database management systems, and general knowledge of principles of database design and data management.
