  • Skilled Trades Worker 1 (2nd shift), Mechanical, Facilities Services (Job 8891), minimum hourly wage is $15.06, posted 11/17/09

    Repair and maintain physical structures, fixtures, machinery, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems in university buildings in accordance with blueprints, manuals, codes and work as a member of a self directed work team. Will be predominantly engaged in the preventative maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, controls and systems associated with HVAC, refrigeration, and energy management in university properties.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Experience
    3 years experience working on mechanical systems, including steam, refrigeration, and system controls, in an institutional, heavy industrial, or light commercial (but not residential) environment.

    Education and/or licensing
    • High school education required
    • Accredited vocational training or completed an apprenticeship in mechanical system maintenance and repairs is preferred.
    • Third Class Stationary Engineer’s license is desirable, but not required.
    • A valid Ohio driver’s license free of significant violations.

    Essential skills
    • Must be familiar with hazards typical to the institution (radioactivity, asbestos, chemicals, etc) and related safety equipment and procedures. Training will be provided.
    • Must be able to work well both independently and as a member of a team.

    Technical skills
    • Familiarity with the proper use of basic hand tools, power tools, and safety equipment.
    • Must be able to read technical drawings, but must also be sufficiently familiar with systems and equipment to diagnose problems without prints.
    • Technical proficiency in diagnosing and maintaining mechanical systems, equipment and controls is essential. Must be able to identify and repair problems without supervision.
    • Basic computer skills and must be willing to learn Work Management System software to record work performed in the Zone.
