On Saturday, May 21, 2005, a power shutdown in Kelvin Smith Library will affect many information technology services driven through ITS equipment located in KSL.
From midnight on Saturday, May 21 (three hours before the planned power shutdown by Plant Services), to approximately midnight, Sunday, May 22, most major ITS services including e-mail, the campus web, and administrative and student systems, will NOT be available. A comprehensive list is posted at here. (Please note that approximately 24 hours are required to safely power down the equipment, perform required maintenance and upgrades, and power up the system.) Plant Services anticipates that power will be restored to KSL by 8 a.m. Saturday morning, and KSL will re-open at 9 a.m.
While there is no ideal time for a shutdown of major ITS services, maintenance and hardware upgrades are critical, and are planned, as much as possible, for times that might be least disruptive to the university’s multiple constituent groups. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience, and thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
