After an exhaustive review and testing of enterprise backup services, Information Technology Services announced today that it is offering a new network backup service supporting department, division, office, and individual servers with more than 100 gigabytes of data.
“We support backup requirements for a wide range of operating systems and data bases,” says Barron Hulver, manager of Technology Infrastructure Services Server and Storage Engineering. “We currently are backing up over 250 servers across the university over the network.” The backup service provides for state of the art engineering support, along with explicit service level agreements, file restore services, and online reporting of systems, restorations, and amount of storage being used. http://www.cwru.edu/its/backup/

Until January 2004 there is no charge for the service. After January 1st, the cost for the service will be charged directly against department, division, office or individual accounts and billed at $0.68 per Gig per month.
Individual desktop and notebook backup services are scheduled to come on line in Q1 of 2004.
