Microsoft Vista Enterprise Edition Upgrade

February 7, 2007

Microsoft’s recent announcement of Vista’s availability has raised the question from Case faculty, staff, and students – when will we be able to upgrade to Vista?

It is anticipated that the Case Software Center will offer the Vista upgrade licenses mid-summer 2007. At this time, Information Technology Services does NOT recommend that faculty, staff, and students upgrade their existing Windows XP computers to Vista. There are numerous software applications that are not compatible and the upgrade process is cumbersome.

Those who are planning to purchase new Case Dell recommended computers/laptops will have pre-loaded Vista operating systems available in the May/June time frame. Dell Higher Education customers have delayed movement to Vista due to issues surrounding compatibility and support. In order to upgrade to Vista this summer, you must have Windows XP with SP2.

The PerceptIS Help Desk will support the Vista OS upgrade process mid-summer once it is available on the Case Software Center In the interim, Case users who choose to upgrade to Vista and need PerceptIS’ assistance with problems will be charged the PerceptIS hourly rate (including those users who have care packages.)
