W32.Rbot Infections

September 12, 2006

We have noted a number of Rbot infections on campus hosts of late.

These automated attacks are pernicious, and can include backdoors, trojan horse programs, and keyloggers. They generally communicate with a 'master' server over IRC channels, and receive a program payload (the goodies)

More details can be found at this reference.

Users are advised to keep patches and anti-virus signatures updated.

This bot net infection can take advantage of many Windows vulnerabilties and misconfigurations.
